The Opportunity
We are Seeking a Senior Lead Analyst / Senior Lead Engineer to join our Future Markets Team.
The Future Markets team is a dynamic team which has been set up to deliver a multi-year programme of work. The team’s function is to deliver key modifications required for EirGrid’s systems and processes to ensure compliance with EU legislation as set out in CEP Regulation 2019/943 Articles 12 & 13 and to support the delivery of Ireland and Northern Ireland’s climate action and renewables targets.
The Senior Lead Analyst/Engineer will play a key role in supporting the design, development and delivery of Future Markets initiatives across the team’s portfolio. The role holder will provide subject matter expertise, analytical and technical leadership, and delivery support across market design, regulatory engagement, readiness, implementation planning and stakeholder engagement workstreams. They will also be expected to bring forward innovative solutions, share knowledge across the team and wider business, and help mentor and develop other staff. The role will be flexible and may be aligned to different Future Markets programmes or policy areas depending on business priorities and the candidate’s experience.
The Team
The Future Markets team is responsible for providing thought leadership in relation to market changes needed to deliver on the renewable electricity targets and is also responsible for delivering large programmes of work to deliver on changes approved by the regulatory authorities.
There are currently a number of teams and projects within Future Markets delivering on including;
Future Market Integration Team (FMIT): Through programmes such as the Scheduling & Dispatch Programme (SDP)and Balancing Market Reform (BMR), the team works with a range of stakeholders to deliver the market, operational and system changes required to maintain a secure and efficient power system while enabling higher levels of renewable generation, storage, demand-side participation and other emerging technologies.
Future Arrangements for System Services (FASS): This project is developing new arrangements for the procurement of innovative System Services which will be vital in facilitating operational change which will allow the power system to be operated with increasingly high levels of low carbon technologies and in achieving our 2030 renewables targets.
European Integration: Since Brexit the all-island electricity market is no longer integrated with the EU. Once the Celtic Interconnector goes live in 2026, we will be integrated once again to the EU and this will require significant market changes.
Single Electricity Market (SEM)—GB Arrangements: The SEM is interconnected with the GB market. Work is ongoing to develop post-Brexit arrangements which includes monitoring of and acting on changes to the structure of the GB markets.
Competitive market transition to Net Zero: Support the development of electricity policy in achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, in conjunction with the Commission for Regulation of Utilities (CRU) and Department of the Environment,
Climate and Communications (DCEE).
Capacity Market Development: Lead the TSO support of the Capacity Remuneration Mechanism, in collaboration with industry, regulators and stakeholders
Tariff Policy: Lead the development of new network tariff policy arrangements and co-ordinate the response to EU guidance on tariffication and approaches to reducing network charges
In addition to these projects the team delivers thought leadership and advice to the rest of the business around key market changes needed to support the government targets of getting 80% of RES-E by 2030 and also a focus on market changes to deliver on net carbon zero.

About you
The role is intended to provide experienced specialist contribution and coordination at workstream level, rather than overall programme, policy or people leadership. The role will be flexible and may be aligned to different Future Markets programmes or policy areas depending on business priorities and the candidate’s experience.
Key features of this role are to:
Programme Delivery, Market Design and Readiness-
Support the development and implementation of Future Markets initiatives by delivering defined analysis, design inputs and implementation tasks within agreed scope and timelines.

Prepare plans, deliverables and implementation materials for assigned work packages, highlighting progress, risks, dependencies and decisions for escalation where required.
-
Work with programme management, operations, IT delivery, market operations, regulation and other teams to progress assigned activities and ensure outputs are aligned with wider delivery plans.

Contribute to readiness planning by assessing impacts on people, processes, systems, codes, procedures and stakeholder communications for defined areas of responsibility.
Technical, Analytical and Regulatory Support-
Provide technical, analytical and market design input to support the development of proposals, options papers and implementation recommendations.

Draft and refine papers, briefings, consultation inputs, regulatory material and decision-support documents for review by managers, workstream leads or accountable owners.

Maintain knowledge of the Single Electricity Market, relevant market codes, EU legislation, regulatory decisions and emerging market developments.

Identify and analyse risks, issues and dependencies within assigned areas, proposing practical mitigations for consideration by the relevant lead or manager.
Stakeholder Engagement and Cross-Functional Working-
Engage constructively with regulatory authorities, government departments, industry participants and internal stakeholders on assigned topics, representing the analysis and position agreed within the team.

Support workshops, working groups, industry forums and stakeholder meetings by preparing material, presenting defined topics and capturing actions, issues and feedback.

Collaborate across EirGrid Group functions to gather input, test assumptions and ensure assigned outputs reflect operational, system, commercial and regulatory requirements.

Develop clear communications, presentations and briefing materials for internal and external audiences.

Participate in working groups at EU level to present EirGrid’s position on specific topics. This may require travel to meetings abroad.
Coordination, Knowledge Sharing and Continuous Improvement-
Coordinate assigned tasks and outputs across contributors, supporting effective prioritisation and delivery while escalating material issues through the appropriate governance channels.

Key features of this role are to:

Relevant third level qualification in engineering, economics, business, data science, power systems or another relevant discipline, typically with significant experience in electricity markets, power systems, energy regulation, programme delivery or a related field.

Strong understanding of electricity market arrangements, market design, system operations, energy policy or regulatory frameworks.

Ability to analyse complex technical, commercial, regulatory or policy issues and translate them into clear recommendations and deliverables.

Experience supporting or leading workstreams, projects or programmes in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare papers, presentations, briefings and reports for technical and non-technical audiences.

Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work effectively with internal teams, regulatory authorities, industry participants and external partners.

Good planning, organisation and delivery capability, with the ability to manage competing priorities and maintain focus on outcomes.
