McMahons is one of Ireland's leading builders providers, supplying building materials, timber, plumbing, hardware, roofing, insulation, and construction products to trade professionals, contractors, developers, and DIY customers. We have been providing quality building supplies and DIY materials to the trade and public for over 200 years. The group consists of a network of 14 stores, as well as a Truss Manufacturing plant and 3 Hardwood & Sheet Material branches. Due to continued growth, we are seeking an ambitious and results-driven Senior Sales Representative / Business Development Manager to join our team.
Role Purpose
This is a key commercial role responsible for developing new business opportunities, strengthening existing customer relationships, and driving profitable sales growth across our product portfolio.
The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities while maintaining and growing existing customer accounts. Working closely with branch management and internal sales teams, they will develop strategic relationships with contractors, builders, developers, local authorities, and commercial customers to increase market share and revenue.
Key Responsibilities
Business Development
- Identify and secure new business opportunities within the construction, building, and trade sectors.
- Develop and implement strategic sales plans to achieve and exceed sales targets.
- Build strong relationships with builders, contractors, developers, architects, engineers, and procurement teams.
- Generate leads through networking, referrals, site visits, industry events, and market intelligence.
- Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and emerging opportunities.
Account Management
- Manage and grow a portfolio of existing accounts.
- Conduct regular customer visits to strengthen relationships and identify opportunities for additional sales.
- Ensure excellent customer service and responsiveness to customer needs.
- Negotiate pricing agreements and supply contracts in line with company policies.
- Resolve customer issues efficiently while maintaining high levels of customer satisfaction.
Commercial Performance
- Deliver agreed sales and margin targets.
- Prepare and present quotations, proposals, and tender submissions.
- Track sales activity and maintain accurate customer records using CRM systems.
- Produce regular sales forecasts and pipeline reports.
- Work collaboratively with branch teams to maximise customer retention and profitability.
Market Development
- Promote the company's full range of products and services.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling and upselling.
- Develop relationships with key stakeholders within the construction industry.
- Support marketing initiatives, trade events, and customer engagement activities.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Achievement of sales and margin targets.
- Growth of existing customer accounts.
- Customer retention rates.
- Number of customer visits and business development activities completed.
- Tender and project conversion rates.
- Pipeline value and forecast accuracy.
Skills & Experience Required
Essential
- Significant sales experience within builders’ merchants, construction materials, building products, or a related industry.
- Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales targets.
- Strong business development and account management experience.
- Excellent negotiation and relationship-building skills.
- Commercially aware with strong financial understanding.
- Full clean driving licence.
- Strong IT skills including CRM systems and Microsoft Office.
Desirable
- Experience working with contractors, developers, architects, engineers, and procurement professionals.
- Knowledge of timber, building materials, plumbing, hardware, insulation, roofing, or related construction products.
- Existing network within the construction sector.
- Third-level qualification in Business, Sales, Construction, or a related discipline.
