Job Description
Start here. Grow here.
At AECOM, we’re currently recruiting a Senior Civil Engineer to join our team in Dublin.
What you’ll do
Key Responsibilities
The Senior Civil Engineer will be responsible for developing engineering solutions that meet the technical, operational, and aesthetic requirements outlined in client briefs, while ensuring compliance with applicable codes of practice, ICAO/EASA standards, and international best practices.
The role involves the design and delivery of large-scale infrastructure projects, with a particular focus on airfield and heavy civil engineering works. Key areas of responsibility include airfield geometry and pavements, navigational aid (NAVAID) assessments, site development works, drainage and utility infrastructure, external works associated with buildings, roads and car parks, and minor roadway improvements.
The Senior Civil Engineer will prepare and coordinate engineering designs, drawings, quantity schedules, calculations, compliance reports, and contract documentation. A significant aspect of the role will involve reviewing and assuring the quality of design work undertaken by third-party consultants, ensuring that all proposals are technically appropriate, compliant with relevant standards, and aligned with Dublin Airport's operational and infrastructure requirements.
- Contribute to the design and delivery of airfield and landside civil engineering projects, progressing schemes from initial concept and option development through to planning, detailed design, and construction stages.
- Lead the design team on small- to medium-scale projects, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to team members.
- Coordinate and manage interfaces with external consultants and design teams to ensure effective collaboration and integration of project deliverables.
- Review external design submissions and contractor proposals to assess their suitability, completeness, and compliance with project requirements. Undertake technical reviews of civil engineering documentation, including drawings, specifications, and design reports, and provide recommendations aligned with daa’s strategic objectives.
- Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards, regulatory requirements, and recognised best practices.
- Deliver high-quality project outputs that meet established performance, quality, budgetary, and programme objectives.
- Ensure design packages are fully coordinated, complete, and delivered in accordance with project schedules and milestones.
- Monitor and verify contractor compliance with approved civil engineering designs throughout the construction phase.
- Develop and phase works in a manner that minimises operational disruption while ensuring constructability, cost efficiency, and programme certainty.
- Support value engineering initiatives and identify opportunities for cost optimisation without compromising quality, safety, or operational requirements.
- Prepare design risk assessments and health and safety documentation in accordance with applicable legislation and industry standards.
- Assist in the preparation of tender documentation for the procurement of external consultants, contractors, and civil engineering services, and provide technical support throughout the procurement process.
- Promote and apply best practices in sustainability, resilience, and whole-life cost considerations across all projects.
- Demonstrate a proactive, solutions-focused approach and the ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities effectively within a dynamic environment.
