Full job description

Role Title: Performing Arts Graduate – Artist in Residence.

Reporting to: Director of Performing Arts

Summary Role Description:

The purpose of this role is to support the delivery of the school Performing Arts programme whilst giving a Graduate a platform to develop their recent area of study and gain valuable experience. This role offers accommodation and full board for the contract period.

Hours of Work:

35 hours per week, over 5 days per week, for 36 weeks across term time. This role requires a great degree of flexibility, including working weekends, early mornings, late evenings, or accompanying students on overnight trips. The timetable for each week to be agreed with the Director of PA according to the needs of the department.

Role Description:

The successful candidate will join a dynamic and busy department where they will have the opportunity to develop their recently required studies and areas of interest while contributing to the successful running of the department. This is a residential opportunity, where you will have full board for the duration of the academic year as part of the remuneration package.

· Project support: assist in the planning and execution of workshops, arts events and festivals.

· Creative educator: assist in planning technique-based curricula within your area of study of the Performing Arts. Team teach performing arts with the Head of Music/Director of performing Arts as well as contributing to the development of the content curriculum of the new DFTS course.

· Assist in Directing the school production: assist in the planning, rehearsing and organisational aspects of producing a successful school production.

· Evaluate Student progress: assist with formative assessments, including interviews, auditions and reports.

· Preparation for Performance: prepare students for in-house and external performances/competitions.

· Assist in managing technical elements of modules/festivals/shows: depending on your area of expertise – stage lighting, sound design, costuming, set building, stage management.

· Trip supervision: supervise students on external trips to competitions/festivals/events.

· RIAM exam supervision: supervise students throughout the exam period.

· Perform duties within the boarding life of the school that support the Performing Arts students’ development.

Qualifications and Essential Skills:

· Graduated within the last 3 years with an honours Degree level qualification, or above, in Drama, Theatre, Film & TV or Musical Theatre.

· Can demonstrate the ability to teach and inspire young adults in a classroom and/or workshop setting.

· Can demonstrate technical skills (Lights, Sound, Camerawork, Music Production or Editing) in Theatre and/or Film.

Experience (in university, or otherwise) of directing or managing a show/festival/ large event.

· Can demonstrate ability to independently create artistic work/projects to a high standard.

· Excellent interpersonal, time management, organisational and project management skills and the ability to create good working partnerships.

· Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, TEAMs and Word.

Desirable Skills:

· Piano Accompaniment for a number of areas: Musical rehearsals, student performances.

· Singing proficiency: to assist with Musical theatre and choir rehearsals.

· Knowledge of, or experience with, residential settings such as boarding schools or Youth residential camps.

Education and Qualifications:

The successful candidate is likely to have an honours Degree level qualification in Drama, Theatre, Film & TV or Musical Theatre.

· Please provide a CV, this can include a breakdown of areas studied and projects completed.

· The short-listed candidates will be asked to facilitate a 25 minute workshop with a group of students as well as a formal interview.
