Full job description

Position Overview
The Finance Manager will help SU Ireland manage its finances well, ensuring clarity, good stewardship, and long-term sustainability. The role involves both day-to-day financial work and offering helpful financial insight that supports planning and decision-making. By keeping our systems clear and our information accurate, this role helps SU Ireland use its resources wisely for ministry.

Key Responsibilities:
Financial Oversight

Track actual income and expenditure and highlight any concerns, offering clear suggestions when needed.
Produce accurate monthly financial reports that explain key patterns and support leadership in making decisions
Provide a forward view of upcoming financial commitments.
Support budgeting and cashflow planning so that finances are clear and predictable.
Strengthen financial systems and processes by identifying what can be improved and helping to put better practices in place.

Income Sustainability

Track income streams and identify helpful patterns or areas that need attention.
Proactively support with grants and major donations administration, including tracking applications, monitoring deadlines, preparing financial information, and supporting reporting requirements.
Offer financial insight that helps the National Director and Board make well-informed decisions.

Operational Finance

Prepare payroll information and submit it to the payroll provider.
Manage SAGE Cloud: categorise transactions, reconcile bank feeds, and keep accurate records.
Process invoices, payments, receipts, and VAT returns.
Monitor outstanding invoices and support proactive credit control and rent collection processes
Support financial processes for camps to ensure teams can budget and work effectively.
Co-ordinate the annual audit and prepare any required documentation.

Compliance

Support CRA financial submissions and help ensure compliance with charity regulations.
Keep accurate digital financial records and follow SU Ireland’s financial policies.

General Responsibilities
Work well with SU staff and volunteers, ensuring good communication and alignment.
Take proactive steps to support SU Ireland’s financial health and long-term sustainability.
Uphold best practice in data protection, financial integrity, and charity governance.
Commit to personal spiritual growth and actively participate in the spiritual life of SU Ireland.

Person Specification
Essential
Experience in finance, bookkeeping, or charity accounts.
Strong computer skills and the ability to use digital systems confidently.
Confident in preparing financial reports and simple forecasting.
Able to work independently with accuracy and discretion.
Communicates financial information clearly and simply.
Supportive of SU Ireland’s aims and values.

Desirable
Experience using SAGE or similar accounting software.
Strong organisational and administrative skills.
Ability to improve or simplify financial processes.
