The Opportunity
As we transition to a low-carbon energy future, this is an opportunity for someone to operate at a strategic level to deliver our IT strategy and make a real impact as part of a centralised architecture function. Enterprise Architecture directly affects grid reliability, market operations, and national energy security. You'll shape technology decisions that keep the lights on while enabling the energy transition.
The Enterprise Architect guide projects down the right technical paths, looking after not only the technical architecture choices but the impact of those choices on the overall solution approach. The role is responsible for ensuring that technology and application platforms are scalable, extensible and cost effective in line with IT strategy and customer needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and maintain the enterprise architecture across IT and OT domains, you'll serve as the primary authority on architectural decisions that span control centre systems and grid management platforms.

Design target-state architectures for OT/IT integration, ensuring real-time operational systems (SCADA, EMS, WAMS) interoperate securely. You'll evaluate and select technology platforms, lead architectural reviews, manage technical debt, and ensure alignment with industry standards.

Ensure the IT strategy is delivered and collaborate with colleagues to contribute to strategic planning and business planning activities

Lead the work activities associated with IT Architecture creating a program to develop, maintain and govern the overall architecture

Work to continuously enhance EirGrid’s IT estate and system capabilities and work with stakeholders around the organisation to ensure a full understanding of EirGrid’s IT needs
- Analyse technology industry and market trends and deliver objective and impartial technology and application assessments to support informed decision making

Drive the resolution of capability gaps and deficiencies in solution designs

Lead the selection of IT systems and services, consulting with project stakeholders on all stages of tender proposals

Build working relationships with peers in the energy sector, European fora and related industries and share experiences

Prepare and present reports and papers for the Executive, the Board and the external Regulators on IT architecture and strategy
- Provide thought leadership and advocate industry best practices and principles
Represent the company externally at conferences and events, making presentations and engaging in external forums and bodies as appropriate.

About You-
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, technology management or other relevant degree
- A minimum of 8–10 years of enterprise architecture experience, with a holistic understanding of application, data and infrastructure technologies

Deep understanding of OT environments — SCADA, EMS and associated protocols, alongside strong enterprise IT architecture skills (integration patterns, API management, identity and access management, data platforms etc.).
- Proficiency in architecture frameworks and experience applying them pragmatically in complex, regulated environments.
- Familiarity with cybersecurity standards for critical infrastructure.
- Strong communication skills with different stakeholders e.g. control room engineers, technical teams, and executive stakeholders.
- A strong track record in architecting and overseeing the delivery of complex solutions and an ability to drive successful outcomes
- Strategic thinker, ability to translate complex problems into workable solutions.
- Expertise in applying technology to solve business problems, collaborating with business experts and service providers along the way
- Knowledge of the constraints and challenges of supporting a secure high-availability IT environment
- Exceptional communicator, able to articulate technical concepts and analysis to non-technical audiences and business leaders
- Ability to lead and influence others to move towards a common vision or goal and to work collaboratively with and through others
- Passionate and engaging with a drive and enthusiasm to deliver on the company vision and strategy
