What We Need Help With
Golden Bake is seeking a motivated Head of Engineering to join our team. The Head of Engineering will be responsible for leading the Engineering & Facilities function to ensure all plant, equipment, systems, and infrastructure operate safely, efficiently, and reliably. This role oversees engineering strategy, technical decision-making, continuous improvement, maintenance standards, and capital planning. This position will ensure that engineering solutions support business growth, operational excellence, and long‑term scalability.
Key Responsibilities:
Engineering Leadership & Strategy

Establish and maintain engineering best practices, standards, and documentation protocols to ensure consistent and compliant technical outputs.

Oversee architectural/technical decisions, system design, and technology selection to support scalability and performance.

Ensure all engineering outputs—software, hardware, and automation systems—meet quality, reliability, and security standards.

Forecast engineering resources, future hiring needs, infrastructure requirements, and technology investments.
Maintenance & Reliability

Lead root cause analysis for major breakdowns or critical incidents and ensure corrective and preventative actions are implemented.

Maintain and improve site standards across plant, equipment areas, and facilities to support operational reliability.

Drive predictive and preventative maintenance approaches in collaboration with the Maintenance Manager.
Project & Budget Management

Oversee delivery of engineering and site projects, ensuring they meet timelines, budgets, and scope requirements.

Manage the engineering department’s budget, ensuring cost‑effective allocation of resources.

Validate projects using data‑driven analysis and cost‑benefit reviews.

Negotiate with external vendors and partners to secure competitive agreements for tools, services, and equipment.
People Management & Collaboration

Lead and develop the engineering and facilities teams, fostering a high‑performance and safety‑focused culture.

Ensure knowledge transfer, documentation, and historical technical information are maintained across departments.

Act as the primary liaison between departments and external partners.

Communicate technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
Process & Continuous Improvement

Implement and monitor agile principles, engineering KPIs, and workflow metrics to optimise team performance.

Prioritise engineering initiatives based on business value, feasibility, and strategic alignment.

Drive continuous improvement in engineering practices, reliability, and facility standards.

Gather feedback from internal teams and partners to support ongoing improvements and innovation.
Facilities & Site Management

Maintain high standards of facilities maintenance in partnership with the Facilities Coordinator and Technicians.

Support safe contractor management, site improvements, and facility‑related compliance activities.
Reporting & Compliance

Provide regular reports on engineering performance, risks, challenges, and opportunities to the Operations Director.

Ensure engineering and facilities operations comply with health, safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Essential
-
Strong experience in an engineering leadership role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.

Experience working in bakery manufacturing or similar food manufacturing (FMCG).

Strong background in mechanical, electrical, automation, or systems engineering.

Proven experience managing engineering teams and delivering complex technical projects.

Solid understanding of maintenance reliability principles, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.

Experience managing budgets, forecasting, and vendor negotiations.
Desirable
Refrigeration plant experience is desirable.
Knowledge of CMMS, automation systems, MES, or industrial IT solutions.
Lean, Six Sigma, or similar continuous improvement training.
