Overall Purpose of the Job
The IT Infrastructure Engineer is responsible for supporting, maintaining, improving, and delivering enterprise infrastructure services across the hospital environment. The role involves a combination of operational support, IT infrastructure project delivery, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement across networking, virtualisation, systems, security, storage, backup, and cloud-integrated services.
The IT Infrastructure Engineer works closely with internal IT teams, including Cyber Security, Helpdesk, and Development teams, as well as clinical departments, vendors, and third-party providers, to ensure stable, secure, and resilient infrastructure services within a complex healthcare environment supporting 24x7x365 operations.
The successful candidate will be a strong IT infrastructure generalist with solid technical fundamentals, strong troubleshooting abilities, and practical experience across enterprise infrastructure technologies, with deeper technical capability in one or more core areas such as networking, virtualisation, systems administration, storage, or security technologies.
Engineers are encouraged to develop broad infrastructure knowledge while building deeper technical expertise in one or more infrastructure domains.
Key Responsibilities and Deliverables
Infrastructure Operations & Engineering

Support, maintain, troubleshoot, and improve enterprise infrastructure systems and services across the hospital environment.

Investigate and resolve infrastructure incidents, operational issues, and escalated technical support requests in a timely manner.

Take ownership of infrastructure issues, operational improvements, and assigned technical projects from investigation through to resolution and delivery.

Support and improve enterprise infrastructure platforms, including networking, virtualisation, storage, backup, Microsoft infrastructure, and cloud-integrated services.

Maintain and troubleshoot enterprise networking environments, including switching, routing, VLANs, VPN connectivity, wireless infrastructure, load balancing, and firewall technologies.

Support virtualisation and server platforms, including Windows, Linux, physical servers, and virtual infrastructure technologies.

Support enterprise storage and backup platforms and participate in backup validation, recovery testing, and disaster recovery activities.

Support identity and infrastructure services, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, Microsoft 365, and related infrastructure technologies.

Support infrastructure connectivity and integrations for healthcare and clinical systems.

Support enterprise monitoring, alerting, reporting, and operational stability initiatives.

Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, implementation notes, and infrastructure diagrams.
Security & Resilience

Assist with implementing infrastructure security improvements, including hardening, segmentation, patching, resilience, and access control initiatives.

Support secure infrastructure operations through firewall administration, certificate management, and security best practices.

Participate in resilience and recoverability initiatives across the hospital infrastructure environment.
Projects & Continuous Improvement

Participate in infrastructure projects, including upgrades, migrations, expansions, implementations, and service improvements.

Work collaboratively with vendors and third-party providers during implementations, upgrades, troubleshooting, and maintenance activities.

Contribute to infrastructure standardisation, operational improvements, and continuous service enhancement initiatives.

Work collaboratively across IT teams to ensure stable, secure, and efficient infrastructure operations.

Participate in planned maintenance activities and out-of-hours support where required.
Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Infrastructure, Networking, or related discipline.

Minimum 4-5 years' experience in enterprise infrastructure, systems, network, or infrastructure engineering environments.

Experience supporting enterprise infrastructure technologies, including networking, virtualisation, Microsoft infrastructure, storage, backup, or security platforms.

Practical experience in one or more core infrastructure areas such as networking, virtualisation, systems administration, storage, or security technologies.

Experience in troubleshooting complex infrastructure and operational issues within enterprise environments.

Experience participating in infrastructure projects, upgrades, migrations, or technology implementations.

Experience working with vendors and third-party providers during support and project delivery activities.

Healthcare infrastructure experience is desirable but not essential.
Preferred Certifications & Technical Exposure

Relevant infrastructure certifications are desirable, particularly in Microsoft, virtualisation, enterprise networking, firewall, cloud, or cybersecurity technologies.

Exposure to enterprise networking, firewall, virtualisation, storage, backup, Microsoft infrastructure, and cloud-integrated technologies is desirable.

Experience with enterprise healthcare systems and integrations would be advantageous.

All posts within Beacon Hospital require flexibility to support the delivery of effective and efficient healthcare services. The post holder will be expected to support operational requirements, infrastructure projects, cybersecurity remediation initiatives, and continuous service improvement activities as required by hospital management and the IT department.
