Location: Head Office, Kilnaleck, Co. Cavan, A82 PA97
Type: Full Time / Permanent (probationary period applies)
Salary: €50,000 - €65,000 per year

Breffni Insulation is a leading provider of energy-efficiency and retrofit solutions, delivering high-quality upgrades to homes across Ireland through both private projects and SEAI-supported programmes. We combine strong technical expertise with a customer-focused approach to help homeowners improve comfort, reduce energy use, and support Ireland’s transition to low-carbon housing.

Role Overview:

As a Retrofit Building Surveyor, you will carry out detailed technical surveys and on-site assessments for both private and SEAI-funded retrofit projects. You will evaluate existing building conditions, identify suitable energy-efficiency measures, and develop clear retrofit plans that align with SEAI and NSAI standards. The role also involves working closely with homeowners, project teams, and installers to ensure upgrades are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the highest quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct detailed retrofit surveys (measured surveys, fabric, ventilation, heating, renewables, etc.) and produce clear technical reports and measured drawings.
Deliver Home Energy Assessments (HEA) and retrofit roadmaps for SEAI One Stop Shop / WHS projects.
Ensure compliance with SEAI DTSS & QADP, NSAI SR54 and Irish Building Regulations; prepare DEAP inputs and BER advisory reports.
Customer engagement: explain findings, grant eligibility, and recommended measures to homeowners; manage expectations and secure sign‑off.
Technical knowledge: resolve technical queries and participate in project scheduling and QA review.
Support estimating & sales: provide technical input to quotes and identify appropriate upsell opportunities.
Mentor junior surveyors and contribute to the continuous improvement of survey templates, checklists and processes.

Requirements

Minimum of 4 years’ experience in residential construction or retrofit projects (SEAI scheme experience advantageous).
Knowledge of Part L and relevant building regulations preferred.
Familiarity with insulation and retrofit measures.
Strong drawing skills with excellent attention to detail.
Strong organisational and communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and within a team.
Fluent in English

Essential Qualifications & Experience

We’re looking for someone with a strong foundation in construction or retrofit who is eager to grow in the energy efficiency sector. You may already have:

Registered SEAI BER Assessor (domestic) with demonstrable experience delivering HEA/One Stop Shop projects. (a bonus, not essential)
Minimum 4 years’ retrofit or building surveying experience with hands‑on site assessment work.
Proven knowledge of SEAI/NSAI compliance, SR54 guidance, and Irish Building Regulations.
Strong customer communication and stakeholder management skills.
Full driving licence
Familiarity with insulation and energy efficiency measures

Most importantly, you are:

Detail-oriented and technically minded
Confident communicating with homeowners and project stakeholders
Organised, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple projects
Motivated to build a long-term career in sustainable construction and energy retrofit

Desirable

Chartered/degree‑level qualification in Building Surveying or equivalent.
BER Assessor training certificate.
Experience with airtightness testing and ventilation calculations.
Familiarity with DEAP BER software.
Experience working on SEAI WHS or similar grant‑funded retrofit programmes
