Financial Accountant AI & Automation
Location: Dublin (City) or Donegal (Buncrana) | Job Type: Full-Time
The Role
You own the numbersand the systems that produce them.
The accounting work is real you'll post the journals, reconcile the balance sheet, make payments, file the VAT. The numbers have to be right. But the boring part of that work the manual journal pulls, the copy-paste between systems, the Excel sheet someone built in 2018 that no one understands that's the part you'll rebuild as you go. The weekly payroll prep shouldn't be a manual checklist. The fixed asset register shouldn't live in three places.
We're hiring for capability, not seniority. The right person could be Part-Qualified, Newly Qualified, or have a few years post-qualification under their belt. What we care about far more than where you are on the qualification ladder is whether you can prove the AI side. If you're an accountant who's been quietly building automations on the side or in your current role this is the role those projects were preparing you for.
What You'll Do
- Own the General Ledger and Fixed Assets journals, reconciliations, lead schedules. You do the work, not delegate it. Then you rebuild the workflow as you do.
- Help with weekly payroll accurately, on time, for a multi-site workforce. Then automate the prep soit stops being a manual exercise.
- Manage IC transactions - own a real time reconciliation tool for all Inter company charges
- Month-end close across our trading entities. Tighten the cycle as you go.
- Manage VAT and tax compliance filings on time, audit trail bulletproof. Build the controls so it stays that way.
- Build financial analytics and reporting not just data dumps. Dashboards and standing reports that answer the recurring "can someone pull this number" questions before they get asked.
- Support business decisions with ad-hoc analysis new reconciliations, capex appraisals or division performance.
- Support licensing and compliance your analysis and reports will be the support for the regulatory compliance function.
- Reshape internal finance tools anything from building tools that captures invoice exceptions to skills that reconciles the cash flow. If a process is broken, you help rebuild it.
What You'll Work With
- Claude Cowork / Code your primary building tool. We're all-in on Anthropic's stack and you'll have full access from day one.
- The actual business systems Sage, Brightpay, Power BI, Basecamp, Notion, PeopleHR, FindMyShift to name a few
- Excel yes. You should still be fast. But it's a tool, not the strategy.
What We're Looking For
- A real finance background. Part-Qualified, Newly Qualified, or up to a few years post-qualification ACCA / ACA / CIMA. Or someone whose day job is genuinely hands-on accounts work (bookkeeping, financial reporting, AP/AR, payroll, recs). The exact qualification matters less than whether you can actually do the work.
- You can prove your AI credentials. This is the non-negotiable. Not "I've used ChatGPT". Not "I've completed an AI course". You've personally built something a Custom GPT, a Claude skill, a Power App, an n8n workflow, a Zapier flow, or an agent that runs in production and is used.
- You're already using AI as a tool, not a topic. Daily. You have opinions about which model to use for what. You've used Claude or ChatGPT for real finance work, not just to write emails.
- You've automated something messy end-to-end and can describe what it looked like before and after. Could be a reconciliation, a reporting pack, an AP workflow, a payroll check. Doesn't need to be enterprise-scale it needs to be real and shipped.
- You can do the accounting work cleanly. Numbers right, controls in place, audit trail tidy. Automation doesn't excuse sloppy accounts.
- You're a self-starter. You see what needs doing and do it. You don't wait for a brief.
About You You'll Be Nodding At Most Of This
- You've automated something in your current role on your own initiative.
- You know the difference between using ChatGPT and building with AI.
- You've used automation platforms (e.g. Power Platform, n8n, Make, Zapier etc) probably several and have views on which fits which problem.
- You've worked with accounting systems (Xero / QuickBooks / Sage / AccountsIQ / NetSuite) at the level of someone who actually moves data through them.
- You've built or contributed to dashboards or reports that other people relied on.
You don't need ALL of this but you should be nodding at most of it.
What This Isn't
- A role for someone who's "interested in AI" but hasn't built anything with it.
- A role for someone whose AI experience is writing better ChatGPT prompts.
- A pure RPA role with an AI buzzword pasted on.
- A role where you stay one step removed from the underlying accounts work.
- A role for someone who only knows one tool and tries to use it for everything.
