In this role, you are the embedded software architect for the Software Enablement team’s Unified SDK, spanning toolchains, host tools, and on‑target embedded software delivered to internal vertical BU teams and external broad‑market customers. You define the top‑level architecture, translate system needs into an implementable and testable technical blueprint, and drive alignment across hardware, software, and product stakeholders. You act as the directly responsible individual (DRI) for the SDK architecture across multiple new product development programs that include one or more embedded processing cores.
- Define and own the Unified SDK top‑level software architecture (end‑to‑end decomposition, interfaces, dependencies, and integration strategy) across multiple products
- Establish architectural principles, standards, and reference designs to enable consistent, scalable reuse across vertical programs
- Translate system and stakeholder requirements into clear architectural decisions, component‑level requirements, and acceptance criteria
- Drive architecture tradeoffs (performance, memory footprint, power, latency, safety/security, maintainability, and time‑to‑market) and document them for long‑term stewardship
- Lead cross‑functional architecture alignment across VBU stakeholders, the Unified SDK Product Owner, hardware teams, and software teams
- Ensure execution, and release of the Unified SDK for Product
- Act as the primary interface between VBU, Unified SDK Product Owner, hardware, and software teams
- Serve as the single point of accountability for software outcomes
- Ensure alignment of software scope with overall product strategy
You will guide the creation of a cohesive embedded software platform by defining the SDK architecture from silicon capabilities through developer experience. This includes shaping subsystem boundaries, ensuring well-defined interfaces, and enabling reliable integration and verification based on vertical stakeholder requirements.
Responsibilities
- Help define the Unified SDK architecture and its evolution across releases, including roadmap alignment and architectural runway
- Elicit and refine system‑level requirements with the product owner, customers, and technical leaders; convert them into architectural requirements and constraints
- Define subsystem decomposition and interfaces (APIs/ABIs), data/control flows, and cross‑core interaction patterns for heterogeneous SoCs
- Specify non‑functional requirements and budgets (CPU, memory, latency, power, boot time) and drive designs that meet them
- Define the integration architecture across hardware, BSP/RTOS/Linux layers, drivers, middleware, security components, and application enablement
- Help architect the developer experience: toolchain selection/configuration, host tools, build system, packaging, versioning, and documentation structure
- Establish architecture governance: design reviews, decision records, coding/architecture standards, and reference implementations
- Partner with development and validation teams to define verification strategy (CI, automated testing, regression, release criteria) and quality metrics
- Provide technical leadership and mentoring, unblocking teams through deep technical reviews and hands‑on architectural guidance
- Drive technical risk management: identify integration risks early, define mitigation plans, and ensure architectural consistency across programs
Minimum Qualifications
We are looking for a senior embedded software architect who can define and evolve a production SDK/platform used across multiple products. You can communicate architectural intent clearly and can translate complex SoC and stakeholder constraints into a cohesive, maintainable architecture. You are comfortable influencing without authority across multiple teams and driving alignment through clear technical decisions and documentation.
- Proven experience as an Embedded Software Architect, Platform/SDK Architect, or similar role owning architecture across multiple releases
- Expert C/C++ skills with experience designing stable APIs and writing reusable, testable components
- Deep experience with embedded systems and real‑time software (RTOS and/or embedded Linux) on complex SoCs, including heterogeneous processing subsystems
- Strong hardware/software integration background (bring‑up, drivers, middleware integration, and cross‑team debug)
- Hands‑on experience with build, configuration management, and release practices (source control, code review, CI/testing, defect tracking)
- Proficiency in architecture methods and artifacts (requirements decomposition, interface specifications, sequence/data‑flow views, decision records)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and present complex architectures to diverse stakeholders
- BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field (or equivalent practical experience)
- 10+ years of experience developing embedded real‑time software, including architecture or technical leadership responsibilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in AI/ML Runtime frameworks.
- Familiarity with SDKs and middleware from semiconductor vendors or embedded ecosystems like Zephyr, and CMSIS.
- Knowledge of embedded security software a plus, including familiarity with projects like Trusted Firmware-M, Trusted-Firmware-A, OP-TEE.
- Experience engaging with and contributing to open-source communities upstream a strong plus.
- Experience with signal chain processing in audio, industrial, SDR, or energy applications
