1. Purpose of the role
- Take ownership of all warehouse activities from goods-in through to completion of order picking, ensuring stock is accurate, available and stored safely.
- Ensure all inbound and outbound stock movements are processed correctly in WHSL system so that inventory levels are reliable and up to date.
- Lead and organise the warehouse team on a day-to-day basis to achieve service, quality and safety targets.
- Provide a smooth, timely handover of picked orders to the outbound logistics team.
2. Main accountabilities and responsibilities
- End to end leadership of the goods in and warehouse operation. Recruit, train, and motivate a high performing goods in and warehouse team. Manage rotas, holidays, attendance, training and performance with clear accountability. Problem solve issues across all areas as they arise and be the sole point of contact for the goods in and warehouse operation.
- Ensure all products are barcoded. Use supplier barcode where possible.
- Receive and unload all deliveries, checking paperwork, quantities and condition of goods to ensure discrepancies are identified and resolved quickly.
- Scan and book all inbound stock into the system accurately, allocating correct locations so that inventory can be found and picked efficiently.
- Manage packaging waste recording in collaboration with admin team
- Organise and maintain warehouse storage locations, including stock rotation, housekeeping and clear labelling to maximise space and minimise damage or loss.
- Plan and oversee the picking and scanning out of outbound orders, ensuring accuracy, completeness and on time readiness for dispatch by the outbound logistics team.
- Clearly agree and manage the handover point at which responsibility for orders transfers from warehouse to outbound logistics.
- Carry out regular cycle counts and full stock takes as required, investigating and resolving stock discrepancies to maintain high inventory accuracy.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and compliant warehouse environment. Drive a zero-tolerance to unsafe or untidy practices culture, and keep health, fire and safety records and supplies up to date. Produce a visually safe and impressive warehouse operation.
- Work closely in a matrix environment with admin, customer service and outbound logistics to resolve issues and support on-time, in-full delivery to customers.
- Use WHSL performance management system to keep up to date with our Company objectives, and your own objectives and participate in reviews.
3. Experience and qualification requirements
- Degree (or applicable experience) in Finance / Business Administration or related field
- Prior experience in a warehouse / logistics role, including goods-in and picking responsibilities.
- Experience leading or coordinating a small warehouse team (formal team leader / supervisor role desirable).
- Good understanding of warehouse processes (goods receipt and scanning, put-away, location management, picking, stock counting and stock reconciliation).
- Confident using warehouse systems, scanners and basic IT (e.g. ERP / WMS, Dynamics, Excel, TEAMs, email).
- Strong attention to detail and numeracy, with a focus on accuracy and right-first-time picking.
- Awareness of Health & Safety practices in a warehouse environment; forklift certificate an advantage.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work under pressure and collaborate effectively with other teams.
