The Position
We are seeking an experienced and results-oriented Decision Support and Financial Accountant to join our team. This role is designed for a professional with a strong accountancy background, preferably with experience in consultancy and a track record of delivering financial insights and reporting within the public sector in Ireland. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in providing high-quality decision support, financial analysis, and strategic reporting to enable effective resource allocation and policy implementation.
Key Responsi bilities
Decision Support
- Provide financial modelling, financial insights and data-driven recommendations to support strategic and operational decisions.
- Conduct cost analyses, scenario planning, and financial forecasting to inform resource optimisation.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop financial strategies aligned with public sector objectives.
- Perform, inform and manage end to end budget cycles.
- Lead the preparation and administration of monthly management reports and finance function tasks, such as:
o Monthly management accounts, Cost centre reports to facilitate budget monitoring and expenditure analysis.
o Month-end bank reconciliation, journal preparation, reconciliation of retail creditors, reviewing monthly reconciliation reports, VAT monitoring and reporting.
Financial Reporting
- Support the preparation, review, and present financial statements and financial reports in compliance with public sector reporting standards and regulations in Ireland.
- Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to internal and external stakeholders, including government departments and oversight bodies.
Monitor financial performance and recommend corrective actions to ensure alignment with budgets and funding requirements.

Compliance and Governance
- Ensure adherence to public financial management principles, including compliance with relevant frameworks.
- Provide guidance on financial governance, risk management, and internal control best practices.
Support audits and reviews by maintaining robust documentation and addressing audit queries.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Build strong relationships with public sector clients, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
- Work closely with finance, operations, and project teams to drive efficiency and value creation.
Communicate complex financial information in a clear and concise manner to non-financial stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate
Essential
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- Professional accountancy qualification (e.g., ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA) is required.
- Proven experience in financial reporting and decision support, ideally within the Irish public sector.
- Consultancy experience is highly desirable, particularly in financial advisory roles for public sector organizations.
- Advanced proficiency in financial systems, data analysis tools.
- Strong Microsoft Excel knowledge and skills.
- Strong understanding of public sector financial frameworks.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to translate data into actionable insights.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Collaborative and client-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering high-quality outputs.
Problem-solving and organizational skills with attention to detail.

Desirable
- Experience working with government departments, state agencies, or public sector organizations in Ireland.
- Familiarity with financial reporting standards and tools used in the public sector.
- Demonstrated ability to lead or contribute to consultancy projects.
- Experience with Oracle E-Business Suite or equivalent financial management system.
- Experience with finance system migrations and upgrades.
- Deliver consultancy assignments related to financial reporting, decision support, and strategic financial planning.
- Support the development and implementation of public sector financial management strategies and tools.
Provide training or workshops to public sector teams on financial analysis and reporting best practices.
