SENIOR ELECTRICAL ENGINEER – GRID COMPLIANCE (DATA CENTRE CAMPUS)

Location: West Dublin, Ireland – embedded on-site with the client's team at their campus. This is a fully on-site role; it is not available as remote or hybrid.

Salary: €85,000–€105,000 per year, dependent on experience
About the role
We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to be embedded full-time with our client's team at their data centre campus in West Dublin. This role sits alongside our Project Manager on the same campus and carries a specific mandate: supporting the client with grid compliance across their owned and leased site portfolio in Ireland, with a particular focus on Fault Ride Through (FRT) compliance.
You will bring strong, hands-on knowledge of data centre electrical hardware – UPS systems, MV/LV switchgear, generators and protection systems – and apply it to a compliance-led remit: assessing, tracking and closing out grid code and FRT compliance across multiple sites, and acting as the client's technical authority in this area with EirGrid, ESB Networks and other grid stakeholders.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate grid compliance activity for the client's owned and leased site portfolio in Ireland, with a specific focus on Fault Ride Through (FRT) compliance.
- Act as the client's technical point of contact on grid code and FRT matters with EirGrid, ESB Networks and other relevant grid stakeholders.
- Review electrical designs, protection settings and generation/UPS configurations against Irish grid code and FRT requirements, identifying and closing out any gaps.
- Support and where required commission FRT-related studies, tests and demonstrations across owned and leased sites.
- Track compliance status across the portfolio, maintain compliance documentation and report progress and risk to the client.
- Provide senior electrical engineering input and support across UPS systems, MV/LV switchgear, generators, protection and controls, and balance-of-plant electrical infrastructure on campus.
- Interface with OEMs, contractors, consultants and the client's wider engineering team on electrical design, commissioning and compliance matters.
- Support the client through grid connection applications, variations and agreements as they relate to compliance obligations.
- Review protective relay settings, coordination studies and generator paralleling/synchronisation arrangements for compliance impact.
- Ensure all work follows electrical safety standards and site EHS requirements.
Essential experience and skills
- Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5+ years' senior electrical engineering experience in mission-critical or industrial power systems, with recent, verifiable data centre experience.
- Strong hands-on knowledge of data centre electrical hardware, including UPS systems (static, rotary, battery and lithium-ion), MV/LV switchgear, transformers, breakers, PDUs, RPPs and busways, and generator systems including paralleling gear, ATS/STS and control systems.
- Demonstrable knowledge of the Irish grid code and Fault Ride Through (FRT) requirements, including experience engaging with EirGrid and/or ESB Networks.
- Experience managing electrical compliance across multiple sites or a site portfolio, including owned and leased assets.
- Strong understanding of protective relay settings, coordination studies, generator paralleling/synchronisation and power quality.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, single line diagrams (SLDs) and control schematics.
- Confident, credible client-facing communicator, comfortable representing the client on technical and regulatory matters.
Desirable
- Prior involvement in grid connection applications, agreements or variations in Ireland.
- Experience with BMS/EPMS integration and SCADA systems.
- Familiarity with CRU regulatory requirements and Uptime Institute or major hyperscale operator standards.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng IEI / IET) or equivalent professional registration.
