The successful candidate will be responsible for the day to day on the ground running of our production facility in bluebell . We operate a full in house production facility including two CNC machines, carpentry area, spray booths and bespoke construction for mainly the exhibition, event and Shopfitting industries. The ideal candidate would need to have experience in leading a team and the running of a busy workshop with multiple jobs happening at any given time.
Daily tasks will include but not limited to:
1. Workshop Floor & Team Management
Daily Resource Allocation: Schedule and assign the core fabrication crew—including carpenters, metal workers, CNC professionals, and fabricators—to active project builds based on skill sets and delivery priorities.
Staff Rotas & Capacity Planning: Manage weekly staff rotas and labour budgets to account for regular shifts and peak event seasons, scaling up with trusted freelance crew or drivers as required.
Safety & Standards compliance: Maintain safety regulations across all machine stations, ensuring proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) compliance, regular tool maintenance, and safe operation of material handling equipment like forklifts.
Continuous Improvement: Streamline material storage and workspace layouts to minimize waste and optimize production cycles for fast-turnaround jobs.
2. Cross-Departmental Build Liaison (Designers & Project Managers)
Design Feasibility Review: Partner with internal designers during early project stages to evaluate 3D configurations, construction layouts, and technical drawings for structural stability, budget limits, and material efficiency.
Material & Build Spec Selection: Advise design teams on selecting specific wood grades, metal framing, hardware, finishes, and large-format print integration to achieve client expectations.
Project Milestone Tracking: Provide regular updates to Project Managers regarding fabrication milestones, immediate material bottlenecks, or labour challenges to adjust delivery timelines proactively.
Prototype Testing: Oversee structural testing and test-building of intricate elements—such as kiosk conversions, soundproof booths, or exhibition stands—on the workshop floor prior to client sign-off.
3. Warehouse Logistics & Logistics Outbound
Inventory Control & Sourcing: Maintain structural inventories of sheet goods, timber, steel profiles, specialized hardware, and finishes to prevent fabrication delays.
Quality Assurance Inspection: Review and approve every custom build, exhibition stand, and scenic prop against designer technical drawings to verify aesthetic tolerances and structural integrity before pack-down.
Logistics & Dispatch Coordination: Organise packing schedules and space layouts within transport vehicles, confirming components are wrapped, crated, labelled, and loaded securely to survive transport.
Kit & Crew Readiness Logistics: Verify that site installation tools, spare hardware kits, and specialized equipment accompany the delivery vehicle to guarantee smooth structural assembly by onsite crews.
This is a job that would ideally suit someone with a carpentry background with a quick ability to learn on the job and a real problem solver that has an eye for detail.
We operate in a fast paced environment with a good team and work with some high end projects & clients and this position is a key team in the over-all day to day running of the business. A minimum of 3- 5 years at workshop manager in shop fitting, exhibitions or similar is required for this position
Salary will be based on experience and a very competitive package is available for the right candidate . The ideal candidate will slot into a very strong existing team and enhance workflow and the standard our of current work.
