Caretaker in Creche Position
We are seeking a reliable, skilled, and proactive Caretaker to join our early years service. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that our creche environment is safe, well-maintained, clean, and fully operational at all times.
This is a key role in supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the service and maintaining a high-quality environment for children, staff, and families.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out day-to-day maintenance and repairs across the building and outdoor areas
- Recognise and respond promptly to maintenance issues as they arise
- Undertake DIY and general repair tasks within competency
- Monitor building condition and report larger issues to management
- Maintain outdoor play areas, ensuring they are safe, clean, and well-kept
Health & Safety
- Ensure all areas of the service are safe, secure, and compliant with health and safety standards
- Carry out regular safety checks (e.g., doors, locks, gates, equipment, outdoor areas)
- Support fire safety procedures, including checks of exits and emergency equipment where required
- Promptly recognise and address any hazards or potential risks
Cleaning & Upkeep Support
- Assist with general cleaning duties when required, particularly in outdoor or communal areas
- Ensure bins, waste areas, and storage areas are maintained appropriately
- Support deep cleaning projects or DIY during closure periods if applicable
General Duties
- Support the Manager with ad hoc maintenance-related tasks
- Ensure equipment and tools are stored safely and securely
- Maintain a log of maintenance work completed
- Be flexible to support the service’s operational needs
Person Specification
We are looking for someone who is:
- Practical, hands-on, and skilled in general maintenance work
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently
- Trustworthy and respectful in a childcare environment
- Proactive in identifying and resolving issues
- Able to prioritise workload and manage time effectively
- Comfortable working around children in a busy early years setting
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience in a maintenance or caretaker role
- Good general repair and maintenance skills
- Understanding of health and safety in the workplace
- Ability to work independently and take initiative
- Garda Vetting clearance
