Fabrication Draftsperson
Role Purpose:
The Fabrication Draftsperson is responsible for producing accurate, clear and detailed fabrication drawings to support the manufacture and assembly of equipment, structures and components.
Working as part of the Drawing Office, the role involves developing fabrication information from approved General Arrangement (GA) drawings, engineering information, specifications and 3D models, ensuring that all drawings issued to the workshop are accurate, practical and suitable for manufacture.
The Fabrication Draftsperson will work closely with the Fabrication Drawing Lead, GA Draftspersons, Engineers, Project Teams, Procurement and Manufacturing personnel to ensure fabrication requirements are clearly communicated and delivered in line with project programmes.
Key Responsibilities:
Produce detailed fabrication and workshop drawings from approved GA drawings, 3D models, engineering information and project specifications.
Prepare drawings for fabricated steelwork, pipework, equipment supports, access platforms, walkways, stairs, handrails, brackets and other project-specific components.
Produce accurate part, assembly and general fabrication drawings containing all dimensions, materials, weld details, finishes and other information required for manufacture.
Develop fabrication details and practical solutions while maintaining the intent of the approved GA drawings and engineering requirements.
Produce cutting lists, material lists and Bills of Materials (BOMs) where required.
Ensure drawings are suitable for efficient manufacture, assembly, transport and installation.
Liaise with Manufacturing personnel to resolve fabrication queries and incorporate practical workshop feedback.
Coordinate with GA Draftspersons and Engineers where clarification or modification of the approved arrangement is required.
Identify drawing discrepancies, clashes, missing information or potential fabrication issues before drawings are released for manufacture.
Carry out drawing checks and revisions in accordance with Drawing Office procedures.
Maintain accurate drawing revisions and ensure superseded information is appropriately controlled.
Work within agreed project priorities and drawing programmes.
Support continuous improvement and standardisation of fabrication drawing practices, details and libraries.
Assist in developing and maintaining standard fabrication details, templates and Drawing Office procedures.
Participate in project and drawing coordination meetings where required.
Work collaboratively with other members of the Drawing Office and wider project teams.
Provide technical drawing support to Manufacturing during fabrication and assembly.
Ensure drawings comply with relevant company standards, client requirements and applicable engineering standards.
Skills & Experience
Essential
Experience using SolidWorks, if no experience in SolidWorks please don't apply.
Experience producing detailed fabrication or workshop drawings within an engineering, manufacturing or construction environment.
Strong understanding of fabrication processes and how components are manufactured and assembled.
Ability to read and interpret GA drawings, engineering drawings, specifications and 3D models.
Good understanding of structural steelwork and general metal fabrication.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to drawing accuracy.
Ability to produce clear and practical drawings that can be readily understood by workshop personnel.
Good communication and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Ability to manage multiple drawing requirements and work to project deadlines.
Desirable
Experience within the water, wastewater, process or mechanical engineering sectors.
Experience producing fabrication drawings for tanks, platforms, structural steelwork, pipe supports and mechanical equipment.
Knowledge of welding symbols, tolerances, material specifications and fabrication standards.
Experience working directly with fabrication workshops and site installation teams.
Experience with Autodesk-based drawing and modelling software.
Familiarity with BIM and model-based drawing workflows.
Qualifications
A relevant qualification in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, CAD, Technical Drawing or a related discipline is desirable.
Equivalent practical experience within a fabrication or engineering environment will also be considered.
