Project Engineer - Water Services
Tetra Tech is looking for Project Engineers/Senior Project Engineers to deliver practical, high-impact water and wastewater solutions on major projects
Purpose and Scope of the Role
This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer to play a central role in the delivery of water and wastewater projects from concept through to detailed design and construction support. Based in Dublin, Cork or Galway, you will work within an integrated technical team supporting public and private sector clients across Ireland and beyond. The role involves preparing designs, technical reports and contract documents, contributing to hydraulic model outputs, and supporting the delivery of multiple projects concurrently. You will work closely with line management, project teams, clients, contractors and other technical specialists, helping to ensure outputs are robust, well-communicated and delivered to programme, budget and quality expectations.
Your Impact in This Position
In the short term, you will contribute directly to the delivery of live projects and provide dependable technical support across the Water and Wastewater team. In the medium term, you will broaden your technical responsibility, strengthen your involvement in project coordination and develop greater confidence in leading key elements of delivery. Over time, you will build towards Chartered Engineer level, expand your influence across significant infrastructure projects, and help shape the technical capability of the team through knowledge sharing, mentoring and best-practice application.
Core Capabilities
1. Water and Wastewater Design Expertise
- Strong practical experience in the design and construction management of water and/or wastewater projects, including the preparation of contract documents and technical deliverables.
- Ability to apply sound engineering judgement to infrastructure challenges and produce solutions that are compliant, buildable and aligned with client needs.
- Capacity to work across project stages, from initial technical input through to delivery support.
2. Hydraulic Modelling and Technical Delivery
- Proven ability to take a key technical role in the delivery of hydraulic model outputs and associated analysis.
- Working knowledge of modelling and simulation software such as EPANET, WinDes, InfoWorks or similar platforms.
- Ability to interpret technical data, justify engineering decisions clearly and communicate outputs with confidence.
3. Project Coordination and Delivery
- Experience supporting the delivery of multiple concurrent projects while maintaining quality, programme and budget requirements.
- Proactive and organised approach, with the ability to work independently and contribute effectively to project management activities.
- Strong attention to detail and a disciplined approach to managing tasks, priorities and deadlines.
4. Collaborative Working and Stakeholder Communication
- Experience working within employer-led and/or contractor-led design teams, ideally in multidisciplinary environments.
- Confident communicator, able to engage effectively with clients, suppliers and internal colleagues both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work constructively with engineering, planning and environmental professionals to support integrated project outcomes.
5. Technical Development and Professional Growth
- Demonstrable commitment to developing technical capability and contributing to the growth of the wider team.
- Interest in applying best-practice principles and innovative thinking to deliver effective client solutions.
- Willingness to support junior colleagues through review, guidance and knowledge sharing, while progressing towards Chartered Engineer status.
Qualifications and Training
Essential: Level 8 degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related discipline; membership of a relevant professional body such as Engineers Ireland or the Institution of Civil Engineers; a strong desire to progress to Chartered Engineer level.
Desirable: Postgraduate Level 9 Master’s qualification; experience with CAD, Civil 3D, QGIS or Arc; strong IT skills including MS Word and MS Excel.
Work Patterns and Locations
This role is based in Dublin, Cork or Galway. Hybrid working is available, with office presence expected in line with project and team requirements. Some site visits and client-facing attendance may also be required. Flexible working arrangements are supported where possible, with a focus on meeting business and client needs while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.
