About Tír na nÓg Care
Tír na nÓg Care is a children's residential care provider based in Carlow Town, referred through Tusla – Child and Family Agency, supporting young people aged 16–17. Our focus is on providing care, support, and a trauma-informed environment while actively preparing young people for their transition to independent living and aftercare. Building independent living skills and empowering young people within a safe, stable, and homely environment is central to everything we do.
The Role
We are seeking an experienced Team Leader to join our residential care service. The successful candidate will provide senior leadership across the care team, ensuring the highest standards of care are maintained across all shifts. This is a hands-on leadership role for someone with a strong residential care background who is ready to take on greater responsibility.

Shift Pattern
This is a residential care service operating across a rolling rota. Staff are required to work a combination of day shifts, sleepover shifts with a sleeping allowance, and waking nights where applicable. All overnight shifts are remunerated in line with industry standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior oversight and leadership across all shifts
- Supervise, support, and mentor Residential Care Workers and Support Workers
- Ensure full compliance with Tusla regulations, Children First, and internal policies
- Oversee care planning, placement plans, risk assessments, and incident management
- Maintain a safe, structured, culturally sensitive, and trauma-informed environment
- Collaborate with Tusla social workers, schools, healthcare providers, and external agencies
- Carry out on-call duties on a rotating basis
- Promote independent living skills and positive outcomes for young people
- Support continuous quality improvement across the service
Requirements
- Minimum Level 7/8 qualification in Social Care, Youth Work, Community Work, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field
- Minimum 2 years' experience in a residential care or similar setting
- Demonstrated experience leading, supervising, or mentoring a care team
- Sound knowledge of trauma-informed and child-centred care models
- Strong communication, decision-making, and crisis management skills
- CORU registration an advantage
Desirable
- Experience in children's residential care
- Experience in SCSIP or out-of-home care settings
- TCI (Therapeutic Crisis Intervention) certification
- Manual Handling certification
- First Aid Responder (FAR) certification
- Full clean driving licence
