Job Title: Senior Software Engineer (Backend)
Department & Team: JM & EDP — Journey Data Team
Location: Galway (Flexible, 2–3 office days per week)
Summary
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Journey Data backend team and help build products and services that bring the benefits of the Genesys Cloud Event Data Platform to our customers. You will work closely with a team of engineers and product managers to ideate, build, operate, and scale customer-facing features across the full development lifecycle. You will get the opportunity to work with modern technologies including a wide array of Amazon Web Services (AWS), Jenkins, New Relic, Sumo Logic, and proprietary Genesys software.
About Our Team
Our team is primarily focused on maintaining and expanding the capabilities of:
Customer Segmentation – groups customers by shared attributes and behaviours to provide context and enrichment for agentic orchestration
Predictive Engagement – proactively engages with web or mobile app visitors to provide assistance when needed in their customer journey
Minimum Requirements
- 5+ years of industry experience in software engineering.
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
- Advanced proficiency with Java and Spring Boot for backend systems.
- Advanced proficiency with multi-layered testing approaches: unit, integration, and user-acceptance testing.
- Experience with NoSQL database design, access patterns, and data modelling for high-throughput, low-latency workloads.
- Experience with common resiliency patterns in distributed microservice architectures: circuit breakers, bulkheads, rate limiting, and retries.
- Experience with event-driven architectural patterns and REST APIs.
- Experience with AWS cloud-based technologies for deploying and managing software systems.
- Experience working with CI/CD processes and technologies.
- Experience designing and owning services end-to-end, from technical design through to production observability.
- Experience with performance optimisation and troubleshooting production systems at scale.
- Experience mentoring or providing technical leadership to junior and mid-level engineers.
- Proactive, self-driven learner with strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills, able to adopt new technologies and navigate ambiguity in an agile environment.
- Demonstrated awareness of modern AI technologies and their implications (safety, privacy, reliability), with role-appropriate skills developed through training and applied practice.
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of delivering complex software projects from concept through to production.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, able to work effectively with product, design, QA, and other teams to drive shared outcomes.
- Confident communicator with the ability to present technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Drives initiatives to completion with minimal oversight
Desirable Skills
- Experience with Amazon Web Services (or similar): EC2, Lambda, DynamoDB, ElastiCache, SQS, SNS, EventBridge, IAM, CloudFormation.
- Experience with supporting technologies (or similar): Jenkins, Terraform, New Relic, OpenTelemetry, Sumo Logic, Kafka, Avro, Resilience4j, Swagger/OpenAPI.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code ownership: designing modules, managing state, and handling multi-environment deployments.
- Experience with other programming languages used in supporting services: JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Groovy.
- Experience using AI tooling as a co-pilot for developing production-ready code.
- Contribution to on-call rotations and incident response.
