Bookkeeping Manager

The Opportunity
I'm currently partnering with a well-established accountancy practice in Wicklow that is looking to appoint an experienced Bookkeeping Manager to join its team.
This is a key role focused on overseeing bookkeeping quality, reviewing VAT compliance, preparing records through to trial balance stage, and supporting a varied portfolio of clients.
It would suit an experienced practice-based bookkeeper, accounting technician, or accountant who enjoys reviewing work, maintaining high standards, and playing a key role in ensuring accuracy and compliance across client files.
Key Responsibilities

Review bookkeeping work to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

Review and approve VAT returns and resolve VAT-related queries.

Ensure correct VAT treatment and support clients with missing or incomplete information.

Prepare and review records through to trial balance stage.

Complete balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.

Prepare management accounts and cash flow forecasts where required.

Review and maintain client Xero files and resolve complex issues.

Support process improvements and drive bookkeeping best practice.

Act as a key point of contact for bookkeeping and client queries.

Build strong working relationships with clients and internal teams.
Essential Requirements

Previous accountancy practice experience is essential.

Strong experience in a bookkeeping, accounting technician, or practice accounting role.

Strong Irish VAT knowledge and VAT review experience.

A genuine interest in VAT compliance and review work is essential, as this is a core part of the role.

Experience reviewing bookkeeping work completed by others.

Ability to prepare records through to trial balance stage.

Experience preparing management accounts and cash flow forecasts.

Strong balance sheet reconciliation skills.

Excellent Excel and systems skills.

Strong organisational and communication skills.

Advanced Xero experience is highly desirable.
Desirable Experience

Accounting Technician qualification.

Part-qualified or qualified ACA, ACCA, CPA, or CIMA.

Experience supervising or mentoring team members.

Experience working with remote or offshore teams.

Knowledge of Sage or other cloud accounting systems.
