General Operative
Overview
A General Operative is responsible for maintaining high standards across residential sites, including apartment developments, external grounds, and communal areas. This role supports the day-to-day presentation, cleanliness, and upkeep of schemes through landscaping, cleaning, and general site maintenance duties.
Occu Services is seeking an experienced General Operative to join our team and support the day-to-day upkeep of our residential sites. The role is hands-on, site-based, and ideal for someone who is reliable, proactive, and committed to delivering high standards across landscaping, cleaning, and general maintenance activities.
We take pride in maintaining the external grounds and communal areas across the schemes we manage, while fostering a supportive, team-oriented working environment focused on quality and consistency.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Landscaping & Grounds Maintenance
- Grass and lawn cutting.
- Hedge cutting and trimming.
- Strimming and edging.
- Weeding by hand and through safe knapsack application.
- General garden maintenance and upkeep of landscaped areas.
Cleaning & External Maintenance
- Power washing and external cleaning of site surfaces and communal areas.
- Window cleaning as required across residential developments.
- Litter picking, waste removal, and general tidiness of external areas.
- Leaf and debris clearing to maintain safe and presentable surroundings.
General Duties
- Carry out daily site inspections to identify upkeep or safety issues.
- Report maintenance issues promptly to the relevant manager or team.
- Operate machinery and equipment safely and in line with company procedures.
- Deliver all work to a consistently high standard across residential sites.
Experience & Qualifications
- Safe Pass (essential).
- Manual Handling certification (required).
- Full driving licence preferred; own transport often advantageous.
- Experience with landscaping machinery (mowers, strimmers, hedge trimmers) beneficial.
- Prior landscaping, horticulture, or outdoor manual work experience desirable but not always essential.
- CSCS machinery tickets (excavator, dumper, telehandler) are an advantage.
Personal Attributes
- Self‑motivated, reliable, and physically fit for active outdoor work.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in high‑quality workmanship.
- Ability to work well independently and within a team.
Typical Work Conditions & Hours
- Full‑time, Monday–Friday roles are most common, with early start times.
- Outdoor work in all seasons.
