As our business continues to expand, we are seeking an experienced and motivated Laboratory Manager to lead our laboratory operations while driving the continued growth of our testing services.

The Role
The Laboratory Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of our laboratory, ensuring efficient operations, high technical standards and continued compliance with quality accreditation requirements, including maintaining the laboratory's INAB accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025 and associated quality documentation.
The successful candidate will lead a small team, manage laboratory resources and equipment, oversee procurement and quality systems, and play a key role in developing new business opportunities. This is a hands-on management role that combines technical leadership with commercial responsibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the day-to-day operation of the laboratory.
- Marketing and business development.
- Manage, support and develop a team of laboratory staff.
- Ensure laboratory testing is carried out safely, efficiently and to the highest quality standards.
- Maintain the laboratory's INAB accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025, ensuring quality documentation, procedures and records remain compliant.
- Manage laboratory equipment, including calibration, servicing and preventative maintenance.
- Procure laboratory consumables, equipment and third-party services, including calibration and maintenance providers.
- Monitor laboratory stock levels and ensure uninterrupted availability of consumables.
- Coordinate staff training, competency assessments and ongoing professional development.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing customers.
- Identify and secure new business opportunities in water testing, wastewater testing and plastic piping/materials testing.
- Promote the laboratory's services through networking, customer engagement and business development activities.
- Work closely with senior management to support the company's strategic growth objectives.
About You
The ideal candidate will have:
- A degree or equivalent qualification in Chemistry, Microbiology, Environmental Science, Materials Science, Engineering or a related scientific discipline.
- Commercial / marketing or business development qualifications are very beneficial
- Previous experience managing or supervising a laboratory environment.
- Strong leadership, organisational and people management skills.
- Experience managing laboratory equipment, resources and procurement.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong commercial awareness with an interest in business development and customer engagement.
- Experience working within an INAB-accredited ISO/IEC 17025 laboratory is highly desirable, with experience maintaining accreditation and associated quality systems considered a significant advantage.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- A proactive, practical and solutions-focused approach.
Experience in water testing, wastewater testing, plastic piping or materials testing would be an advantage but is not essential.
