Purpose of the Role
To assist in providing a safe, caring, stimulating, and inclusive environment for children attending Manister Breakfast & Afterschool Club. The successful candidate will support children’s social, emotional, and educational development through positive interactions and engaging activities.
Key Responsibilities
Childcare and Supervision
* Ensure the safety, welfare, and well-being of all children at all times.
* Supervise children during indoor and outdoor activities.
* Build positive and supportive relationships with children.
* Promote positive behaviour using encouragement and appropriate guidance.
Activity Planning and Engagement
* Assist with planning and delivering age-appropriate activities.
* Support children with homework and educational tasks where required.
* Encourage participation in arts and crafts, games, sports, and creative play.
* Foster an inclusive environment where all children feel valued and respected.
Daily Operations
* Assist with preparing and serving snacks.
* Maintain a clean, safe, and organised environment.
* Set up and tidy activity areas before and after sessions.
* Follow all health and safety procedures and club policies.
Communication
* Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents, children, and colleagues.
* Report any concerns regarding a child’s welfare to the designated person.
* Work effectively as part of a team to ensure the smooth running of the service.
Essential Requirements
* Genuine interest in working with children.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
* Reliable, caring, and enthusiastic attitude.
* Willingness to undergo Garda Vetting.
Desirable Requirements
* QQI Level 5 qualification in Early Learning and Care (or equivalent).
* Previous experience working with children in a childcare, school, or afterschool setting.
* First Aid training.
