My Client is one of Ireland’s leading mechanical services contractors, with an excellent reputation for delivering high-quality HVAC, plumbing, and mechanical installations across commercial, pharmaceutical, data centre, healthcare, and industrial projects.
They are currently seeking a Junior Mechanical Estimator to join their growing commercial team in Cork. This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate or early-career estimator looking to develop their skills with a respected and busy contractor.
Role Overview
As a Junior Mechanical Estimator, you will support the senior estimating team in the preparation of competitive tenders for mechanical services projects. You will receive structured training and gain exposure to all aspects of mechanical estimating, from tender review through to submission.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the review of tender documents, drawings, and specifications.
- Carry out quantity take-offs for mechanical systems (HVAC, pipework, ventilation, etc.).
- Support the preparation of cost estimates for labour, materials, subcontractors, and plant.
- Issue enquiries to subcontractors and suppliers and help analyse returns.
- Help identify risks and opportunities within tenders.
- Contribute to the compilation of tender submissions and supporting documentation.
- Maintain and update estimating databases and pricing libraries.
- Provide support to live projects on variations and cost queries.
- Work closely with experienced estimators and project teams.
Requirements
- Qualification: Degree (Level 8) in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services, Quantity Surveying, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 0–3 years’ experience in estimating, mechanical engineering, or a similar role. Recent graduates with relevant internships or placement experience are welcome.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical building services (HVAC, heating, plumbing systems).
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and comfortable learning new software.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Full driving licence.
Desirable:
- Previous experience in construction, mechanical contracting, or quantity surveying.
- Exposure to estimating software or BIM/Revit.
