Behaviour Practitioner (BCBA)
ABACAS Special School, Kilnamanagh invites applications for the position of Behaviour Practitioner (BCBA) commencing September 2026.
This is currently a full-time position, funded by a grant from the Department of Education and Youth. The successful applicant will be employed by the Board of Management of ABACAS Special School.
ABACAS Special School caters for pupils with a diagnosis of Autism and complex needs between the ages of 4-18. The Behaviour Practitioner will work collaboratively with school staff, families and relevant professionals to provide evidence-based, neurodiversity-affirming behavioural support that enhances learning, communication, participation and wellbeing across the school community.
The Behaviour Practitioner reports directly to the School Principal and the Board of Management.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide behavioural assessment and support using evidence-based practices.
- Develop, implement and monitor Positive Behaviour Support Plans.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, SNAs, families and external professionals.
- Support staff through coaching, mentoring and the delivery of professional development.
- Contribute to whole-school approaches to positive behaviour, inclusion and wellbeing.
- Analyse data to evaluate interventions and inform decision-making.
- Maintain appropriate records, reports and documentation in line with professional and legislative requirements.
- Promote best practice in line with neurodiversity-affirming principles and current research.
Essential Requirements
- Current BCBA certification.
- A Master's qualification in Behaviour Analysis or a related discipline.
- A minimum of five years' experience providing behaviour support to Autistic children and young people (4–18 years)
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, neurodiversity-affirming practice.
- Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD) in Autism
- Excellent organisational, communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Excellent written, report-writing and data analysis skills.
- Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative school team.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience working in a special school or educational setting.
- Experience providing staff training, coaching and mentoring.
- Knowledge of Department of Education guidance and relevant educational legislation.
- Experience supporting pupils with complex communication, sensory and behavioural needs.
- Experience working collaboratively with families and external agencies.
