Senior Occupational Therapist (0.2 or 7 hours/week Permanent Contract)
This position will lead the Occupational Therapy component of the Adolescent Assessment for Homecare Admission, including undertaking initial assessments, identifying occupational therapy needs, developing recommendations, and implementing Occupational Therapy interventions as required following assessment.
The successful applicant must:
- Hold a qualification in Occupational Therapy recognised by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT) and validated by CORU
- Be registered with CORU
- Minimum of three years’ clinical experience, ideally in CAMHS or adolescent mental health
- Experience working in an inpatient/daypatient/outpatient mental health setting as part of a multidisciplinary team, ideally in CAMHS
- Proven ability to facilitate occupation-based and psychoeducational groups
- Experience supporting young persons with psychiatric illness across various stages of recovery
- Ability to deliver both face-to-face and virtual initial assessments, interventions, and group sessions
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including MS Teams and Outlook

Location
St Patrick’s Mental Health Services, James’s Street, Dublin 8, incorporating St Patrick’s Lucan, Willow Grove Adolescent Unit, the Dean Clinics, and other services operated by St Patrick’s Mental Health Services.
This position will be primarily based in the
Adolescent Dean Clinic, Cork. A hybrid working arrangement may be available, subject to service requirements and operational needs.
Responsibilities
Professional / Clinical
Lead the Occupational Therapy component of the Adolescent Assessment for Homecare Admission, including conducting comprehensive initial assessments, identifying occupational therapy needs, and formulating clinical recommendations. This role involves determining the need for onward referrals to appropriate services, signposting adolescents and their families to relevant community resources, implementing occupational therapy interventions as required following assessment, and contributing to the ongoing development and improvement of the service.

Be responsible for the maintenance of standards of practice of self and staff appointed to clinical / designated area(s)
-
Be responsible for managing own caseload and for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of treatment programmes/interventions for service users. Interventions and groups may be face to face or virtual.

Participate in the discharge planning process with service users.
- Foster and maintain professional working relationships with colleagues, front line managers, and other healthcare personnel in the team.

Ensure the quality of documentation of all assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, reports and discharge summaries are in accordance with local policy and completed in the electronic health record (ESwift) and in line with CORU Code of Ethics.
- Communicate verbally and / or in writing results of assessments, treatment / intervention programmes and recommendations to the team, family members, service users and relevant others using Plain English when necessary

Participate in MDT’s as required, communicating and working in co-operation with other team members.
- Carry out duties in a timely manner, within settings appropriate to service users needs, and in line with local policy/guidelines

Be responsible for adhering to existing standards and protocols and for the development and maintenance of standards / strategies for quality improvement and outcome measurement.

Seek advice and assistance with any assigned duties in line with principles of evidence-based practice and clinical governance.

Ensure that professional standards are maintained in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation

Education and Training-
Participate in mandatory training programmes as required

Participate in continuing professional development including in-service training, attending and presenting at conferences / courses relevant to practice, contributing to research etc. as agreed by the Occupational Therapist Manager

Candidates must have;-

Terms and Conditions
Tenure: 0.2 WTE, Permanent Contract.
Working Week: The standard hours for this position are 14 hours/fortnight.
Salary: The salary for the position is based on the Senior Occupational Therapist 2026 pay scale, €65,200- €76,770 and is commensurate with experience.
Annual Leave The annual leave associated with the position is 28 days pro rata.
Pension: All pensionable staff become members of the pension scheme upon commencement of employment. The scheme is a defined contribution scheme with a deduction from the salary of the employee of 4%. In respect of an internal appointment being made the individuals existing pension arrangements will continue.
Probation: The appointee will be appointed in a probationary capacity for the first six months during which time the job holder’s performance will be subject to ongoing review.
Any extension to or suspension of the period of probation will be in line with the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) 2022.
Health: The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character: The appointee must be of good character.
Retirement Age: Normal retirement age for employees is 66 years which at present is also normal pension age.
