Company Profile:
Suretank Group has been one of the leading manufacturers of Modular Solutions (OSM), Infrastructure & Industrial sectors for 30 years. Established in 1995, Suretank operates from its headquarters in Co. Louth Ireland. As we continue to expand our OSM business , we are committed to delivering excellence and innovation while fostering a culture of collaboration and growth.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join our expanding Off-Site Manufacturing (OSM) and modular building engineering team in Dundalk. This pivotal role bridges the gap between commercial concept and physical manufacturing execution.
As a Senior Engineer, you will lead the mechanical design of complex volumetric and panelised modular systems, ensuring all designs optimize Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles. This role is highly cross-functional, requiring regular communication with Sales to validate client proposals, Project Managers (PMs) to ensure strict timeline adherence, and the Production team to troubleshoot and streamline assembly floor integration. Additionally, you will act as a key technical liaison directly collaborating with customers to turn structural and architectural requirements into scalable mechanical realities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Advanced Technical Mechanical Design & DfMA
-
Lead the mechanical design, engineering, and detailing of modular building systems, cold-rolled steel framing structures, and integrated sub-assemblies.
-
Apply rigorous Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles to minimise factory waste, reduce assembly hours, and ensure structural component standardisation.
-
Utilize advanced 3D modeling environments to build comprehensive, production-ready parametric models and structural detail libraries.
-
Generate exact Bill of Materials (BOMs), structural calculation summaries, and explicit execution drawings for the factory floor.
2. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Stakeholder Management
-
Sales Alignment: Collaborate with the commercial and sales teams during pre-contract stages to evaluate technical feasibility, estimate mechanical material costs, and provide conceptual design support for tenders.
-
Project Management Integration: Partner with Project Managers to define engineering timelines, monitor milestone delivery, proactively flag design bottlenecks, and manage variations in project scope.
-
Production Floor Coordination: Work hand-in-hand with factory production supervisors and assembly teams to supervise prototype builds, incorporate shop-floor feedback into design revisions, and rapidly resolve manufacturing discrepancies.
3. Customer & External Client Collaboration
-
Serve as the primary technical point of contact for external clients, architects, and main contractors during structural design reviews.
-
Translate complex customer requirements, architectural blueprints, and local building performance briefs into actionable mechanical design specifications.
-
Lead client-facing technical presentations, managing sign-offs on engineering variations and detailed system interfaces.
Qualifications:
-
Education: Bachelor's Degree (Level 8) in Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a highly relevant technical discipline.
-
Experience: Minimum of 5-8+ years of dedicated experience in mechanical design engineering, with a verified track record in modular builds, off-site manufacturing (OSM), structural steel styling, or large-scale architectural cladding systems.
-
Software Proficiencies: Mastery of 3D parametric design platforms (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor) along with a deep functional understanding of BIM frameworks and workflows (e.g., Autodesk Revit).
-
Cross-functional Competency: Documented experience working directly alongside non-engineering business lines (Sales, Project Management) and active production facility staff.
-
Communication: Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills, with the professional polish required to anchor independent customer-facing technical workshops.
-
Chartership Desirable.
Knowledge and Skills:
-
Proven experience of delivering detailed designs through the full design cycle.
-
Excellent experience using 3D CAD applications e.g. SolidWorks, Creo (Pro/E), Inventor, Revit.
-
Excel at working on several projects simultaneously and show the ability to prioritise and plan work.
- Ability to lead projects internally and externally and be responsible for project performances, including satisfied clients, profitable projects, and maintaining the company's reputation to enable repeat work.
- Demonstrate a good understanding of other building disciplines in the design and installation of buildings.
-
Exhibit leadership qualities while working as part of a team.
-
Ability to make prompt, disciplined project decisions.
-
Excellent attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
-
Commercial Awareness.
