Our client is seeking applications from suitably qualified and experienced candidates for the position of Locum / Temporary Consultant Microbiologist. This is an exciting opportunity to join a multidisciplinary healthcare team and contribute to the delivery of high-quality microbiology and infection prevention services within an acute hospital setting.
The successful candidate will provide consultant-level clinical microbiology services, supporting patient care through expert advice on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases. The role includes laboratory oversight, infection prevention and control leadership, antimicrobial stewardship, and participation in multidisciplinary clinical teams.

Provide specialist clinical microbiology advice to medical, nursing, and allied health professionals.

Support the diagnosis and management of infectious diseases across inpatient and outpatient services.

Lead and contribute to infection prevention and control initiatives.

Participate in antimicrobial stewardship programmes.

Work collaboratively with laboratory staff to ensure the delivery of high-quality microbiology services.

Contribute to clinical governance, quality improvement, audit, and risk management activities.

Participate in consultant on-call arrangements as required.

Support teaching, training, and professional development of medical and healthcare staff.

Applicants must:

Be registered as a Specialist in the Specialist Division of the Register of Medical Practitioners maintained by the Medical Council of Ireland in the specialty of Microbiology, or be eligible for such registration.

Hold appropriate qualifications and experience consistent with Consultant Microbiologist practice.

Demonstrate excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.

Have a proven commitment to patient safety, quality improvement, and clinical excellence.

Experience in Infection Prevention and Control leadership.
