Play and Learn Childcare are recruiting for a School Age Childcare Practitioner / Deputy Leader for our Scariff Afterschool Service from September 2026.
This is a part-time, term-time position based in Scariff, working with school-age children in our afterschool service.
The successful candidate will work alongside our existing staff team and will act as the responsible/deputy person for the Scariff service on the days when the lead staff member is not present.
Hours
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
1.30pm – 5.30pm
12 hours per week
Term-time position, commencing September 2026.
There will be another staff member present on Tuesdays due to numbers. On Thursdays and Fridays, the successful candidate will be the lead/deputy person on site for the session.
Main Duties
- Support the daily running of the Scariff Afterschool Service.
- Provide a safe, welcoming and caring environment for school-age children.
- Supervise children during play, homework time, snack time and activities.
- Support positive behaviour and respectful routines.
- Communicate professionally with parents, staff and management.
- Maintain attendance records and follow service policies and procedures.
- Ensure children are supervised appropriately at all times.
- Report any concerns, incidents or accidents in line with service procedures.
- Act as deputy/responsible person on site when the lead staff member is not present.
Requirements
- Experience working with children is essential.
- A childcare, school-age childcare or relevant qualification is desirable.
- Ability to work independently and take responsibility for the session when required.
- Good communication skills.
- Kind, reliable and professional approach.
- Knowledge of child protection, safeguarding and health and safety procedures is an advantage.
- Garda vetting and reference checks will be required before commencement.
About the Role
This role would suit someone who enjoys working with school-age children and can provide a calm, organised and positive environment after school. The successful candidate will be supported by the Play and Learn management team and will work closely with our existing Scariff staff member.
