The role
Salary Officer – Specified Purpose Contract
St Patrick’s Mental Health Services seeks a Salary Officer to work as a member of the Salaries team in St Patrick’s Mental Health Services to ensure a high-quality service.
The Salary Officer will report to the Senior Salaries Officer and Financial Controller.
The standard working week applying to the post is 35 hours per week.

Location
St Patrick’s Hospital, James’s Street, Dublin 8, St Patricks Hospital Lucan and all SPMHS Dean Clinics.
The Salary Officer position is a hybrid role and the role requires the successful candidate to come onsite to St Patrick’s University Hospital in Dublin 8.
Responsibilities
This job description is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties. The person appointed may be required to perform other duties as appropriate which may be assigned to them from time to time and to contribute to the development of the position.
- Ensuring preparation work is carried out accurately and on time

Preparing all wage sheets/ cards and entering details onto system

Processing fortnightly payroll for over 600 employees and salaries etc
-
Ensuring the starters and leavers are entered in line with payroll procedures
-
Ensuring employee details are up to date and changes in deductions are processed correctly
- Reconciling input details to payment details
-
Preparing EFT file for transfer to bank within specified time frame.

Running bank transfer for individual cases
-
Preparation and distribution of employee payslips mostly via email

Entering tax credits and union deductions
-
Liaising with the tax office
-
Ensuring all necessary controls and authorisations are followed

Preparing and reconciling month end reports

Preparing and reconciling year end reports
-
Responding to all employee pay related queries and ad hoc reporting for HR and finance as required
- Assisting auditors with payroll audits

Assist in the implementation of new IT systems in the payroll department

Terms and Conditions
Tenure: 1.0wte Full time, Specified Purpose contract, pensionable as below.
Working Week: The
standard hours applying to this position is 35 hours per week.
Salary: The salary for the position is based on the Clerical Grade V 2026 pay scale (€51,959 - €62,765) and is commensurate with experience.
Annual Leave The annual leave associated with the position 26 days per annum.
Pension: All pensionable staff become members of the pension scheme upon commencement of employment. The scheme is a defined contribution scheme with a deduction from the salary of the employee of 4%. In respect of an internal appointment being made the individuals existing pension arrangements will continue.
Probation: The appointee will be appointed in a probationary capacity for the first six months during which time the job holder’s performance will be subject to ongoing review.
Any extension to or suspension of the period of probation will be in line with the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) 2022.
Health: The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character: The appointee must be of good character.
Retirement Age: Normal retirement age for employees is 66 years which at present is also normal pension age.
