Role Overview
Incus Power is seeking an experienced and proactive Health & Safety Manager to take ownership of the Health & Safety function across our manufacturing facility.
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing, implementing and maintaining robust Health & Safety systems, ensuring legislative compliance and, importantly, driving a strong practical safety culture throughout the business.
This is a hands-on position requiring a visible presence on the production floor. The H&S Manager will be expected to identify issues, implement solutions, challenge unsafe practices and work closely with management, supervisors and employees to continuously improve standards.
Key Responsibilities
Health & Safety Management
- Take day-to-day ownership of the company's Health & Safety function.
- Ensure compliance with applicable Irish Health & Safety legislation and regulations.
- Maintain and continuously improve the company's Safety Statement.
- Develop, review and maintain risk assessments and safe operating procedures.
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and Health & Safety audits.
- Identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented and closed out.
- Maintain an effective H&S action tracker and report outstanding actions to management.
- Ensure appropriate controls are in place for manufacturing, electrical, manual handling, lifting, machinery and other relevant activities.
- Monitor PPE requirements and compliance.
- Maintain appropriate H&S records and documentation.
Production & Factory Safety
- Maintain a strong and visible presence on the factory floor.
- Regularly inspect production areas, stores, yard and welfare facilities.
- Work with Production Management to identify and eliminate unsafe practices.
- Review machinery and equipment from a safety perspective.
- Ensure appropriate machine guarding and safe systems of work are maintained.
- Review manual handling activities and recommend improvements.
- Monitor housekeeping, access routes, emergency exits and storage practices.
- Assist management in developing a culture where safety becomes part of normal production management rather than a separate exercise.
Accident & Incident Management
- Investigate workplace accidents, incidents and near misses.
- Establish root causes rather than simply recording incidents.
- Recommend and implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Maintain accident and near-miss records.
- Manage statutory reporting requirements where applicable.
- Monitor trends and identify recurring issues.
Training & Competency
- Maintain the company H&S training matrix.
- Identify training requirements and organise appropriate training.
- Coordinate manual handling, fire safety, first aid and other required training.
- Ensure new employees receive appropriate H&S induction before commencing work.
- Maintain records of employee qualifications, training and certification.
- Monitor expiry dates and arrange refresher training.
Emergency Preparedness
- Maintain emergency response procedures.
- Coordinate fire drills and emergency exercises.
- Maintain appropriate numbers of trained first aiders and fire wardens.
- Ensure fire equipment, emergency exits and associated inspections are maintained.
Contractors & Visitors
- Develop and maintain appropriate contractor control procedures.
- Ensure contractors provide required insurance, risk assessments, method statements and safety documentation before commencing work.
- Ensure visitors and contractors receive appropriate site induction.
Compliance & Continuous Improvement
- Keep management informed of changes to relevant H&S legislation.
- Develop practical H&S policies and procedures appropriate to the business.
- Monitor compliance with established procedures.
- Work with HR and Operations where repeated non-compliance or unsafe behaviour occurs.
- Support the development of ISO-aligned systems and future certification requirements where applicable.
Management Reporting
Provide a concise monthly Health & Safety report covering:
- Accidents and incidents
- Near misses
- Safety observations
- Audits and inspections completed
- Outstanding corrective actions
- Training completed and outstanding
- Upcoming certification/training expiries
- Key risks requiring management attention
- Recommendations for improvement
Qualifications & Experience
Essential
- 2-3 years hands on experience.
- Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety.
- Strong working knowledge of Irish & EU Health & Safety legislation.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing, engineering, electrical or similar environment.
- Experience preparing risk assessments, Safety Statements and safe systems of work.
- Experience investigating accidents and incidents.
- Strong communication skills with the confidence to challenge unsafe practices regardless of seniority.
- Good organisational and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of the H&S function.
- Full driving licence.
Desirable
- NEBOSH, IOSH or equivalent recognised H&S qualification.
- Experience within electrical manufacturing, switchgear or engineering.
- Internal auditing experience.
- ISO 45001 experience.
- Train-the-Trainer, Manual Handling Instructor or similar qualification.
