ROLE DESCRIPTION:
Douglas is a thriving Gaelic Football, Hurling, Ladies Football and Camogie club catering for boys and girls from all ages up to adult level. The club is based in Douglas Village, Cork. The club are looking to appoint a Games Promotion Officer.
DESCRIPTION OF GPO ROLE
1. To promote and grow Gaelic Games in the local area through high quality coaching and positive leadership.
2. Maximise participation levels in Gaelic Games through the provision of a structured and coordinated skills development programme in the club for all underage players.
3. To further develop and strengthen the link between the club and primary and post-primary schools in the area to ensure a vibrant pathway for young players.
4. To raise the standards of club coaches by ensuring a wide range of coach learning opportunities are provided at all levels.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assess and expand the club primary school coaching programme to ensure participation growth in playing numbers at underage level.
2. Develop and improve participation rates among non-traditional GAA families in the catchment area.
3. Organize school blitzes between primary schools in the area.
4. Coordinate TY students’ involvement in coaching and young referees’ initiatives.
5. Set up and coordinate Easter, Halloween and Summer Camps
6. Assist in implementation of a coach development pathway in conjunction with the club coaching committee.
7. Develop initiatives and projects to ensure a culture of diversity and inclusion is developed in the club.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Preference will be given to applicants with
1. Level 1 GAA Coaching Qualification
2. Experience of working in the GAA or a similar sporting organization in a voluntary or professional capacity.
Mandatory
1. Knowledge of the GAA Player Development Pathway
2. Garda Vetting and Child Safeguarding are required
3. Strong communication skills
4. Excellent administration, IT and organizational skills
5. First Aid qualification
6. Full drivers licence
HOURS OF WORK
The position will be a fixed one-year contract, based on a 40 hour working week. Successful candidates may also be required to work at weekends and evenings due to the nature of the role.
REPORTING STRUCTURE
Each GPO will be an employee of Cork GAA, delivering coaching outputs and player participation programmes through each designated club. The fundamental coaching focus will be in the primary and post-primary schools during the academic year, and will change to club-based activities during Easter, Summer and Mid-term breaks. Each GPO will be monitored and supervised by the Regional Games Development Coordinators, in conjunction with the coaching committee in each club, to ensure standards of professionalism are maintained.
