Job Purpose:
To ensure the quality and safety of meat products by monitoring and enforcing compliance with food safety standards, SOPs, and regulatory requirements. The Technical Manager will oversee the production process, implement quality checks, and address non-conformance issues to maintain the highest standards of product quality and food safety.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Control & Assurance:
- Monitor and inspect raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure compliance with quality standards.
- Conduct regular quality checks, including temperature monitoring, packaging integrity, and product labelling.
- Oversee compliance with HACCP (Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point) principles and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):
- Implement and enforce adherence to SOPs across all production areas.
- Develop, review, and update SOPs as necessary to ensure alignment with industry standards and regulatory changes.
- Train staff on SOPs, quality protocols, and food safety procedures.
- Audits and Inspections:
- Conduct routine internal audits to ensure compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Prepare for external audits and inspections by regulatory bodies or third-party certification agencies.
- Address non-conformance issues promptly, implementing corrective actions and preventive measures.
- Engage professionally and assertively with the Department of Agriculture/Veterinary inspectors, challenging excessive or impractical requests where appropriate while maintaining full compliance, strong documentation, and constructive working relationships.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of quality checks, production processes, and non-compliance reports.
- Generate detailed reports on quality performance, deviations, and corrective actions for management review.
- Ensure traceability of products through effective documentation.
- Compliance and Regulations:
- Stay updated on food safety regulations, industry standards, and certification requirements.
- Ensure that the production facility adheres to health, safety, and hygiene standards.
- Liaise with regulatory agencies during inspections or audits.
- Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement:
- Investigate quality-related issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions.
- Collaborate with the production team to improve processes and reduce defects.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and quality awareness among employees.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education:
- A degree or diploma in Food Science, Food Technology, Microbiology, or a related field is ESSENTIAL
- Relevant certifications in HACCP, GMP, or Food Safety Management are advantageous.
- Experience:
- At least 5 years of experience in a quality control role within the meat production or food processing industry.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing and managing SOPs and food safety programs.
- Skills:
- Strong understanding of HACCP, GMP, and other food safety standards.
- Proficiency in quality testing techniques and tools used in meat production.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for staff training and coordination.
- Ability to handle pressure and work in a fast-paced environment.
