Job Title: Kitchen Assistant

Overview:
Matt the Millers Bar and Restaurant is currently seeking a dedicated and reliable individual to join our kitchen team as a Kitchen Assistant. The successful candidate will assist in various kitchen duties including food preparation, supporting the head chef, washing up, and ensuring a high level of cleanliness in the kitchen area. This role requires someone who can work efficiently as part of a team, has a good understanding of kitchen practices, and can thrive in a fast-paced environment, especially during busy periods.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in vegetable preparation, including washing, peeling, and chopping as directed by the head chef.
- Support the head chef in various kitchen tasks such as ingredient preparation, cooking, and plating.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards in the kitchen area, including cleaning surfaces, equipment, and utensils regularly.
- Wash dishes, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment efficiently to ensure a constant supply of clean items for the kitchen staff.
- Follow food safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the safe handling and storage of ingredients and prepared dishes.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations in the kitchen and report any hazards or incidents to the management team.
- Assist with stock management by rotating ingredients, checking expiry dates, and notifying the head chef of any shortages or discrepancies.
- Collaborate with other kitchen staff members to ensure smooth and efficient operations during busy periods.
Requirements:
- Previous experience working in a kitchen environment is essential (1 Year).
- Knowledge of kitchen practices and techniques, including food preparation, cooking methods, and sanitation standards.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team, communicate clearly, and follow instructions from the head chef.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexibility to work varied shifts, including evenings and weekends as required by the business.
- A positive attitude, reliability, and a willingness to learn and develop new skills in a dynamic kitchen environment.
