About Your New Role as a Health and Safety Officer:
As the Health and Safety Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of our employees and contractors on construction sites. You will be responsible for the development, implementation, and monitoring of health and safety policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with legislation, and promoting a culture of safety across all operations with the following main duties below:
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures in line with current legislation and company standards, to ensure full compliance with local and national Health and Safety legislation.
- Co-ordinate and manage health and safety resources to carry out regular site inspections to identify hazards and ensure compliance with site safety regulations.
- Monitor and evaluate health and safety performance, preparing reports for senior management.
- Maintain up-to-date records of statutory inspections for all activities and equipment.
- Ensure the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and safety measures across all construction sites.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies and ensure the company meets all legal requirements.
- Development and management of safety / environmental management system including Safety statement, project health & safety Plans, risk assessments & method statements.
- Act as a company representative during outside Agency Audits/Inspections with regards to Health and Safety.
- You will liaise with Site Managers to ensure Health and Safety documentation is up to date on site and support in the execution of health and safety related statutory duties.
- Investigation of incidents / near miss’s, ensuring root cause analysis is completed and corrective actions are implemented.
- Review of sub-contractor safety statements, relevant documents, and Method statements ensure that all health and safety documentation, is maintained and up to date.
- Provide health and safety training and inductions to new employees, subcontractors, and office personnel.
- Communicate with site supervisors about deficiencies, needed improvements, and report findings to the management.
- Ensure that all employees and sub-contractors are fully compliant and up to date in all Health, Safety & Workplace legislation
Key Skills Required:
- Strong knowledge of construction site safety regulations and procedures.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage with all levels of staff.
- Proficiency in risk assessment, incident investigation, and accident reporting.
- A proactive approach to identifying and addressing health and safety issues.
- Ability to multi-task across various sites.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Team player with strong collaborative skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Minimun 3-5 years Experience – ideally within a main Civils contractor role,
- A minimum of a Level 7 qualification in Health and Safety (ideally level 8)
- Experience in a similar role, in Ireland.
- Manual handling / abrasive wheels trainer would be an advantage.
- Valid SAFE PASS and Manual handling certificates.
- Valid working permit.
- Full driving license
