We are looking for an experienced, reliable and enthusiastic Canteen Manager to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of a busy secondary school canteen in Tralee, Co. Kerry.
This is a hands-on management position for someone who enjoys working in a fast-paced catering environment and takes pride in food quality, customer service, hygiene and organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the daily operation of the school canteen.
- Lead and supervise a small catering team.
- Organise daily food preparation, service and cleaning duties.
- Prepare and serve food alongside the catering team during busy periods.
- Ensure high standards of food quality, presentation and portion control.
- Maintain excellent food hygiene and HACCP standards at all times.
- Ensure correct allergen management and prevent cross-contamination.
- Monitor food temperatures and complete required food safety records.
- Manage stock levels, food ordering, deliveries and stock rotation.
- Monitor use-by dates and minimise food waste.
- Operate and oversee the till/POS system and daily cash-up procedures.
- Maintain accurate records relating to stock, sales, cleaning and food safety.
- Ensure the canteen, equipment, preparation areas and storage areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness.
- Organise staff duties and ensure the canteen is fully prepared for busy break and lunchtime services.
- Train and support canteen staff in food safety, hygiene and company procedures.
- Deal professionally and courteously with students, school staff and customers.
- Work cooperatively with school management and follow all relevant school policies and procedures.
- Report operational, staffing, maintenance or food safety issues to company management.
- Ensure the canteen operates efficiently, professionally and safely at all times.
Requirements:
- Previous experience in catering, hospitality, food service or a similar environment.
- Previous supervisory or management experience is highly desirable.
- Good knowledge of food hygiene and HACCP principles.
- Good understanding of food allergens and cross-contamination.
- Strong organisational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication and customer-service skills.
- Ability to lead and motivate a small team.
- Experience with stock control and ordering is an advantage.
- Till/EPOS experience is an advantage.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods.
- Reliable, punctual and professional.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Comfortable working in a busy secondary-school environment.
- Positive attitude and willingness to be hands-on and lead by example.
Training:
Food Safety, HACCP and allergen training will be required for the role, with training provided where necessary.
Garda Vetting is required.
