About the Role
We are seeking a passionate, innovative, and committed Assistive Technology Trainer to join our team and support people with visual impairments to develop the skills and confidence to thrive in the workplace.
This role involves delivering personalised assistive technology training and coaching to employees within our social enterprise, supporting individuals with diverse educational backgrounds, learning styles, and support needs. You will play a key role in enabling employees to access, navigate, and utilise assistive technologies effectively, empowering them to maximise their independence, participation, and success in the workplace.
The ideal candidate will have strong technical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and a genuine commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and person-centred practice. Candidates with lived experience of disability are strongly encouraged to apply.
This position is partly funded through the Department of Rural and Community Development's Community Services Programme, which supports employment opportunities for people with visual impairments and additional disabilities.
Training and Coaching
- Deliver individual and small-group assistive technology training to employees within the social enterprise.
- Provide personalised coaching and support tailored to the individual learning goals, abilities, and workplace requirements of each employee.
- Assess employees' assistive technology needs and develop appropriate learning plans and support strategies.
- Train employees in the effective use of assistive technologies, adaptive software, and accessibility features relevant to their roles.
- Support employees to build confidence, independence, and digital skills in the workplace.
Ongoing Support and Development
- Provide ongoing technical support, troubleshooting, and workplace adaptations as required.
- Monitor learner progress and adapt training approaches to maximise outcomes.
- Maintain accurate records of training sessions, progress, achievements, and support provided.
- Contribute to the development, review, and updating of training plans, task analyses, and learning resources.
- Keep up to date with developments in assistive technology, accessibility tools, and best practice in inclusive training.
Collaboration and Team Working
- Work collaboratively with the CanDo team and wider colleagues to continuously improve training approaches and learning materials.
- Participate in team meetings, service planning, and professional development activities.
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Social Enterprise Manager.
- Support the promotion of inclusive employment practices and workplace accessibility across the organisation.
Person Specification
Essential Requirements
- Experience delivering training, teaching, tutoring, coaching, or learning support, ideally in technology or assistive technology environments.
- Strong knowledge of assistive technology, accessibility tools, and software used by people with visual impairments.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to adapt teaching and coaching approaches to meet diverse learning styles and support needs.
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to work independently.
- A commitment to inclusion, accessibility, and person-centred practice.
- Patience, empathy, and a supportive, collaborative approach.
Desirable Requirements
- Experience working with people who are blind or vision impaired.
- Experience delivering workplace-based training or coaching.
- Knowledge of screen readers, magnification software, voice recognition technology, and accessible digital tools.
- Experience supporting people with disabilities in employment, education, or community settings.
- Relevant qualification(s) in education, assistive technology, disability studies, information technology, training, or a related field.
Additional Requirements
- Eligibility to work in Ireland.
- Satisfactory reference checks and Garda Vetting clearance.
- Availability to attend in-person interviews.
