The Kitchen Porter is responsible for supporting the smooth and efficient operation of the food production unit by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene and organisation. The role involves cleaning and sanitising kitchen equipment, utensils and work areas, assisting with food preparation where required, managing waste and supporting the wider production team.
The successful candidate will work as part of a busy team and must follow all food safety, health and safety and company procedures at all times.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitise kitchen, food production, preparation, and storage areas.
- Wash and sanitise pots, pans, trays, utensils, containers, and other production equipment.
- Operate dishwashers and cleaning equipment safely where required.
- Assist food production staff with general preparation and support duties as directed.
- Maintain clean and organised workstations throughout the production shift.
- Dispose of food waste, packaging, and general waste in accordance with company procedures.
- Keep floors, walls, drains, sinks, and other designated areas clean and hygienic.
- Follow all food hygiene, health and safety, and infection-control procedures.
- Follow correct procedures for the use, storage, and handling of cleaning chemicals.
- Ensure cleaning equipment and materials are stored safely after use.
- Assist with receiving, moving, and storing food ingredients and supplies when required.
- Support stock rotation and maintain cleanliness in refrigerators, freezers, and dry-storage areas.
- Report damaged equipment, spillages, maintenance issues, pest concerns, or hygiene problems to the supervisor.
- Wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) and appropriate work clothing at all times.
- Follow company policies, HACCP procedures, and food safety requirements.
- Work efficiently as part of the food production team, particularly during busy production periods.
- Carry out any other reasonable duties assigned by the Production Manager, Chef, or Supervisor.
