Shift Production Manager
REPORTS TO:
Manufacturing Manager
JOB PURPOSE:
This job description is intended as a guide to the type of role the job holder is expected to perform. As the nature of our business can vary with changes in customer requirements and operating procedures the following tasks are the key duties of the role, but it is understood that the job holder will undertake any function in which he/she is adequately trained or competent. If in time, significant changes to the role are experienced, a new job description will be issued.
To be fully responsible for all areas of the production process and team members and ancillary operations, ensuring employee safety, meeting customer delivery and quality expectations whilst maximising and continuously improving production efficiencies and minimising costs. The role is at the heart of the management team and therefore must show consistence and measurement in decision making, whilst listening to, and respecting team opinion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The role will encompass responsibility for all areas of the production process and their ancillary operations including cleaning and warehousing and shipping. It also includes meeting customer delivery and quality expectations whilst maximising and continuously improving production efficiencies and minimising costs and ensuring the safety of all employees.
EHS

Be Health and Safety focused at all times and contribute to the standards within the site and identifying any non-conforming areas

Take the lead with regards to any H&S issue within the department, ensuring that all staff are complying with the company procedures

Taking reasonable care for the health and safety of self and others and working with due regard to the responsibilities detailed in the company’s Health & Safety Policy Statement.
QUALITY
-
All functions to be carried out in accordance with ISO, BSI, quality management standard requirements with reference to the sites Quality Policy, Policy Manual & relevant Works Instructions

Ensuring that all areas of responsibility retain set standards of housekeeping

Investigating any deviations or customer complaints by implementing corrective actions based on root cause analysis
DELIVERY

Understanding customer requirements and liaising where required in good time with the internal customer services department when issues arise

Participate in appropriate capacity planning discussions to meet output targets
PERFORMANCE
-
Drive production performance through daily interactions with the team and by providing regular, fair and reasonable feedback regarding performance
-
Understanding lean principles and implement cost reduction projects and productivity improvements within area of responsibility and agree, produce and ensure adherence to all EHS, productivity and quality KPI’s.

Prepare and analyse reports that feed into our KPI’s and present trends and improvement initiatives to a variety of stakeholders.

Managing new product introduction in area of responsibility & participate in new product design and development
PERSONNEL

Motivating and managing team members across a variety of production roles and departments

Talent and performance management – supporting skills development for current and future needs of the business. Developing and empowering team members to contribute fully to the business objectives with a view of recognising development opportunities

Working with HR to ensure that all aspects of people management are carried out in line with company policies and procedures. These include following fair process to manage minor employee relations issues, overtime and holiday allocation and conducting performance management, absence management, investigations and disciplinary meetings where necessary.

Promoting a communicative environment within your area of responsibility and contributing to a good team spirit within the management team

QUALIFICATONS:
-
Preferably possess a third level qualification, preferably to degree level
-
3 years’ experience of working within a similar role gained within the manufacturing industry
-
Awareness of current SHE and employment legislation and standards
-
Have strong knowledge of Pharma / Life Sciences customer quality and delivery requirements
-
Technical knowledge of prepress, print and finishing would be an advantage
-
Logistical, analytical and organisational skills.

Strong engineering background highly desirable

Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP)

Numerical / verbal reasoning skills at management norm
