The Haematuria Service provides same day diagnostic services for patients referred from their General Practitioner or other referral sources with Haematuria. Patients with macroscopic and microscopic haematuria are assessed.

The patients are seen in clinic where a history and physical examination is undertaken, they then proceed to the Radiology Department where they have upper tract imaging either with a CT urogram or a renal ultrasound, and subsequently they proceed to the Flexible Cystoscopy room where diagnostic cystoscopy under local anaesthetic is performed.
Responsibilities Include:

The RANP - Haematuria Oncology practices to a higher level of capability across the six domains of competences as defined by Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann (NMBI) Advanced Practice (Nursing) Standards and Requirements (NMBI 2017).

Provide expert clinical assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients within the Haematuria pathway.

Lead and contribute to the development of care pathways and protocols.

Facilitate communication and coordination across the MDT to ensure seamless patient care.

Contribute to service evaluation, audit, and quality improvement initiatives.

Manage care of new patients referred from the Consultant Urologist to the RANP Haematuria Clinic.

Demonstrate accountability and responsibility for professional practice as a lead healthcare professional.

Articulate safe boundaries and engage in timely referral and collaboration for those areas outside their scope of practice, experience and competence.

Conduct a comprehensive holistic health assessment using evidenced based frameworks to determine diagnoses and inform autonomous advanced nursing care.

Synthesise and interpret assessment information (particularly history) including prior treatment outcomes, physical findings and diagnostic data to identify normal, at risk and subnormal states of health.

Provide leadership in the translation of new knowledge to clinical practice.

Educate others using an advanced expert knowledge base derived from clinical experience, on-going reflection, clinical supervision and engagement in continuous professional development.

Communicate effectively with the healthcare team through sharing of information in accordance with legal, professional and regulatory requirements.

Evaluate audit results and research findings to identify areas for quality improvement in collaboration with nursing management and multidisciplinary team colleagues (primary and secondary care).
- Contribute to service development through appropriate continuous education, research initiatives, keeping up to date with nursing and medical literature, recent nursing and medical research and new developments in nursing and medical practice, education and management.
Eligibility Criteria:

Be a registered nurse with the NMBI or entitled to be so registered.

(RANP) Are registered in the Advanced Nurse Practitioner Division of the NMBI Register.

Have a broad base of clinical experience relevant to the advanced field of practice.

Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, professional and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
(cANP) Be eligible to undertake a Master's Degree (or higher) in Nursing or a Master's Degree, which is relevant, or applicable, to the advanced field of practice. The Master's programme must be at Level 9 on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ)/Quality & Qualifications Ireland (QQI), or equivalent. Educational preparation must include at least three modular components pertaining to the relevant area of advanced practice, in addition to clinical practicum

(cANP) Be currently undertaking a Master's Degree in Nursing (Advanced Practice Pathway) or be eligible to register to undertake additional Level 9 NFQ/QQI specific modules of a Master's Degree in Nursing (Advanced Practice Pathway) within an agreed timeframe. Educational preparation must include at least three modular components pertaining to the relevant area of advanced practice, in addition to clinical practicum.

Candidate Pathway Appointment:

Given the developmental nature of the Candidate ANP role, appointment to this post will be made on a Specific Purpose Contract, directly linked to participation in and completion of the approved candidacy pathway.

The purpose of the cANP contract is to enable the postholder to undertake the required education, training, and competency development necessary to meet the criteria for progression to the substantive (RANP) role. This wholetime appointment is subject to the terms set out below:

The post-holder is expected to demonstrate achievement of the core and specific competencies deemed necessary to manage the identified scope of practice and successfully complete the required educational programme within the agreed pathway timeframe of 2 years.

Any posts not filled by RANP appointees may be filled by the Candidate ANP panel created on foot of this campaign, as an interim measure.
