About the Role:
We are seeking a proactive and analytical Sustainability & Energy Associate to help drive Ballymaloe Foods' sustainability, environmental and energy agenda. This is a highly cross-functional role working with Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, Engineering and external stakeholders to deliver meaningful sustainability improvements across the business. The successful candidate will help lead initiatives relating to Origin Green, environmental reporting, energy management, packaging compliance, emissions reduction and sustainability projects while ensuring that sustainability activities support the wider business strategy. This role would suit either:
- A recent graduate with strong technical and analytical skills and a passion for sustainability, or
- An early-career sustainability, engineering or environmental professional looking to develop their expertise in a food manufacturing environment.
Support for this role will be provided by the Quality, Engineering and Operations Managers.
Key Responsibilities
Sustainability Programmes
- Coordinate Ballymaloe Foods' sustainability strategy and improvement plans.
- Support delivery of Origin Green commitments and reporting requirements.
- Monitor sustainability KPIs and prepare performance reports.
- Assist with carbon footprint, emissions, waste and environmental data collection.
- Support sustainability audits and customer requests.
Energy & Environmental Management
- Work closely with engineering and operations teams to identify opportunities for energy reduction and efficiency improvements.
- Assist with energy monitoring, analysis and reporting.
- Support grant applications and sustainability funding opportunities.
- Monitor utility consumption trends and investigate variances.
- Participate in environmental improvement projects across the site.
Compliance & Reporting
- Maintain sustainability records and documentation.
- Support packaging, recycling and environmental compliance activities.
- Coordinate data required for customer, auditor and regulatory requests.
- Ensure sustainability information is accurate and well-documented.
Project Work
- Lead sustainability improvement projects from concept through implementation.
- Research new technologies, solutions and best practices.
- Prepare business cases and cost-benefit analyses for sustainability initiatives.
- Work with departments across the business to deliver agreed actions.
Communication & Engagement
- Promote sustainability awareness throughout the business.
- Support internal sustainability communications and employee engagement activities.
- Represent Ballymaloe Foods at relevant sustainability events and forums.
- Help communicate sustainability achievements both internally and externally.

Skills & Experience
Essential
- Degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Energy Management, Supply Chain or related discipline.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Comfortable working with data, spreadsheets and reporting systems.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Self-motivated with the initiative to work independently.
Desirable
- Experience in sustainability, environmental management or energy projects.
- Knowledge of Origin Green or sustainability reporting frameworks.
- Food manufacturing experience.
- Understanding of carbon accounting, emissions reporting or environmental metrics.
- Experience with ERP systems and data analysis tools.
