About the Role
We are looking for a General Manager to join our team and take responsibility for the smooth day-to-day running of our small, independent hotel.
With a team of up to 15 staff, this is a hands-on role where you will be actively involved in the daily operation of the hotel. You will lead and support the team, ensure our guests receive an excellent experience, maintain high standards and help the hotel operate efficiently and profitably.
Previous management experience would be an advantage, but it is not essential. We are particularly interested in candidates with solid hospitality experience, a strong work ethic and the ability to take responsibility, lead by example and learn quickly.

Key Responsibilities
Day-to-Day Hotel Operations
- Oversee the daily operation of the hotel and ensure everything runs smoothly.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness, presentation, service and guest experience.
- Work closely with all members of the hotel team, including reception, housekeeping and food & beverage.
- Be visible and hands-on throughout the hotel and lead by example.
- Deal professionally with guest requests, feedback and complaints.
- Identify and resolve operational issues quickly and effectively.
- Coordinate with suppliers, contractors and maintenance providers when required.
- Ensure the hotel is safe, welcoming and well presented at all times.
Team Leadership
- Lead, support and motivate a small team of up to 15 staff.
- Prepare and manage staff rotas in line with business requirements.
- Help train new team members and ensure staff understand hotel standards and procedures.
- Set a positive example for the team through your own attitude, professionalism and work ethic.
- Monitor staff performance and provide support and feedback where required.
- Help create a positive and respectful working environment.
- Assist with recruitment and staff onboarding as required.
Guest Experience
- Ensure guests receive a friendly, professional and personal service.
- Take ownership of guest issues and ensure they are resolved appropriately.
- Monitor guest feedback and online reviews.
- Look for ways to improve the guest experience and encourage repeat business.
- Build a strong reputation for the hotel within the local community and with visitors.
Commercial Responsibilities
- Assist the owners with monitoring hotel performance, occupancy and revenue.
- Monitor costs, purchasing and stock levels.
- Help identify opportunities to increase revenue and improve efficiency.
- Maintain good relationships with suppliers and local businesses.
- Support sales, marketing and promotional activities where required.
Standards, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure hotel procedures and standards are followed consistently.
- Maintain high standards of health, safety, hygiene and cleanliness.
- Ensure relevant licensing, food safety and other legal requirements are followed.
- Report and address maintenance, safety or operational issues promptly.
- Assist with maintaining appropriate records and documentation.
About You

- Previous hospitality experience – essential.

Previous Management Experience
Previous hotel or hospitality management experience is preferred but not essential.
We would also welcome applications from an experienced Supervisor, Duty Manager, Assistant Manager, Team Leader or senior hospitality professional who feels ready to take the next step into a General Manager position.
