To be responsible for aiding in the delivery of the Gynaecological Ultrasound service at the Rotunda Hospital
Although candidates with specific Gynae Ultrasound experience are desired, consideration can be made for applicants with general and paediatric Ultrasound experience. Training and rotation through paediatric Ultrasound can also be considered on discussion with the Radiography Services Manager.
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Statutory Registration, Professional Qualifications, Experience, etc.
Statutory Registration:
(a) In the case of individuals who qualified on or before 30th October 2013 and have been engaged in the practice of the profession in the Republic of Ireland for a minimum of 2 years fulltime (or an aggregate of 2 years fulltime), between 31st October 2008 and 30th October 2013 must:
(i) Hold a qualification in Radiography recognized by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU, see www.coru.ie
And
(ii) Submit to the HSE proof of acknowledgement of application for registration in the Radiographers division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU. (*See NOTE 1)
Or
(b) Individuals who do not meet the requirement set out in (a) above must;
(i) Be registered in the Radiographer Division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU.
Or
(ii) Submit proof of recognition of their radiography qualification by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU, www.coru.ie, before an offer of employment can be made.
And
(iii) Submit proof to the HSE of their application for registration in the Radiographers Division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU before an offer of employment can be made.
And
(iv) Achieve registration in the Radiographer Division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU prior to commencement of the contract of employment. (*See NOTE 1).
And
(c ) Experience & Qualifications
(i) Have not less than 3 years full time post qualification clinical experience and currently actively undertaking Gynaecological Ultrasound scanning.
Preferable
(ii) Possess a postgraduate qualification relevant to the specialism (Ultrasound) at a minimum of QQI Level 9 as recognized by the IIRRT
Preferable
(iii) Have not less than 3 years practical clinical experience* working in the specialty (Ultrasound). Practical clinical experience will include time assigned to work in the relevant specialist area but needs to comply with the following breakdown:
A minimum of 12 weeks assigned to work in the relevant specialized area will be required for each relevant year to be counted.
(d) Requisite Knowledge
Possess the requisite knowledge and ability (including a high standard of suitability, management and professional ability) for the proper discharge of the duties of the office.
2. Annual registration
On appointment practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Radiographers Register maintained by the Radiographers Registration Board at CORU once initial registration is secured.
Responsibilities
Work in a team of skilled Radiology Ultrasound staff, creating and promoting healthy working relationships.
Provide strategic and clinical leadership which results in the delivery of an effective, efficient, quality assured and patient-centred Ultrasound service.
Adhere to the operational and departmental protocols and international guidelines.
Be accountable for the quality of the Ultrasound service provided, including patient experience and technical aspects.
Possess a strong commitment to providing a quality service.
Assist in auditing the service and participate in the implementation of the audit findings.
Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards using an evidence based, care planning approach.
Liaise closely with the Clinical Specialist Radiographer (Ultrasound), Radiography Services Manager, Consultant Radiologists and other staff as appropriate to ensure the smooth running of the service.
Ensure that all Ultrasound examinations are carried out to the optimum standard.
Keep up to date with current techniques and developments in imaging procedures and to actively participate in Continued Professional Development.
Contribute to the preparation of plans for the Ultrasound service, monitoring and reporting on their implementation.
Implement and maintain accurate information systems for clinical data in accordance with hospital standards.
Adhere to professional guidelines as determined by the Irish Institute of Radiographers and Radiation Therapists. Ensure best evidence based practice is used in the provision of the service.
Report all operational issues to the Clinical Specialist Radiographer (Ultrasound) or the Radiography Services Manager as appropriate.
Adhere to all departmental imaging protocols and be responsible for the correct identification of patient images.
Contribute to the development and implementation of agreed policies, procedures and safe professional practice.
Take part in routine inspection of equipment and quality assurance procedures.
Be responsible for the cleaning, decontamination and care of all imaging equipment and ancillary equipment.
Be responsible for safe use of all equipment and adhering to instructions on its use. Ensure all other staff complies with same.
Participate in established Ultrasound QA programme as required.
Assist in the training of new members of staff.
Relate to and communicate with all other staff in a courteous and helpful manner at all times.
Administrative
Manage use of consumables efficiently.
Liaise with Radiography Services Manager on all financial matters.
Assist in the organisation, maintenance and / or ordering of equipment and materials as required in line with guidance from Clinical Specialist Radiographer and Radiography Services Manager.
Represent the Radiology department at meetings and conferences as required.
Engage in ICT developments as they apply to service user and service administration.
Keep up to date with developments within the organisation and the Irish Health Service.
Human Resources
Support the Radiography Service Manager and Clinical Specialist Radiographer (Ultrasound) in the implementation of initiatives aimed at on-going service development and improvement.
Promote and maintain a safe environment for staff and patients.
Assist in the development and implementation of risk management and health and safety strategies in association with appropriate personnel.
Assist in the development and maintenance of a training function as may be required in relation to qualified staff and/or trainees and students.
Supervise and assess all training as required.
Liaise with the Radiography Services Manager and other senior staff on the rotation of staff through the Department.
Liaise with the Radiography Service Manager and Clinical Specialist Radiographer (Ultrasound) on human resource issues as appropriate.
Health & Safety
Investigate and take appropriate action in accordance with hospital policy in relation to complaints, accidents and incidents.
Ensure that all hospital policies and relevant legislation on radiation safety and ultrasound safety is understood by staff and complied with.
Ensure the Radiology Ultrasound Department functions in accordance with the operational policy at all times.
Liaise with the Radiography Services Manager and Clinical Specialist Radiographer (Ultrasound) on all QA and QI issues related to the Radiology Ultrasound department.
