The post holder will report to the Nurse Practice Development Co-Ordinator, and is professionally accountable to the Director of Nursing
Responsibilities - The post holder will be responsible for;
Professional and Clinical Leadership

Be a role model for exemplar practice at the level where healthcare is experienced.

Ensure that clinical areas provide the optimum learning environment for registered nurses
-
Provide clinical leadership for nursing which results in the delivery of effective, efficient, quality assured and patient centred nursing care.

Ensure appropriate liaising and communication within the department of nursing and with members of the multidisciplinary team as necessary.

Maintain professional standards in relation to confidentiality, ethics and legislation.

Act as a source of clinical expertise for staff within the clinical area
-
Observe and identify knowledge and clinical experience of staff and promote and encourage post registration education.

Support and direct staff in the clinical area, making them aware of policy / guideline changes by good communication.

Operate within own scope of practice - seek advice and assistance from Nurse Practice Development co-ordinator with any cases that prove to be beyond this scope in line with principles of best practice and clinical governance.
Liaison and Communication

Support clinical nurse managers, nursing staff and competency development

Attend relevant meetings as required.

Develop good working relationships with wards and departments to promote quality patient centred care.

Promote effective nurse documentation in clinical areas and maintain appropriate records.

Modelling positive behaviour influencing colleagues, students, members of staff and patients.

Teaching, Supervising and assessing students and Candidate nurses fairly and respectfully using the tools available.
Eligibility Criteria:
Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:
(i) Are registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann) or entitled to be so registered.
And
(ii) Have at least 5 years post registration experience of which 2 recent years must be in the specialty or related area.
And
(iii) Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.
And
(b) Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
