Job Description: Mechanical Design Drafter & PDM Controller
Company: A-techSYN Limited
Location: Unit 4 Distribution Centre, Shannon Free Zone, Shannon, Co. Clare, Ireland
Department: Engineering
Role Overview
A-techSYN is an established manufacturer and developer of advanced Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS). Following the integration of our global data infrastructure syncing our international engineering teams, we are looking to onboard a highly technical, detail-driven Mechanical Design Drafter & PDM Controller.
This role sits at the intersection of production drafting, geometric validation, and configuration control. Your primary focus will be supporting active new product lines and existing payload integration projects by producing flawless, manufacturing-ready prints, issuing Part Numbers (P/Ns), and managing document releases. During project lulls or downtime, you will systematically clean up historical assembly files, fix broken mates, and optimize our central SolidWorks PDM vault.
Key Responsibilities
1. Active Projects: Drafting, GD&T, & Release Management
- Production-Ready Blueprints: Translate active 3D engineering models into complete 2D technical data packages for the shop floor.
- GD&T Application: Define and apply precise Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) per ISO/ASME standards, ensuring limits, fits, and datum frames align with manufacturing realities.
- Manufacturing Synchronization: Review drawing revisions against physical shop-floor processes, factoring in machining clearances, composite layup requirements, and assembly tolerance stack-ups.
- Configuration Control: Allocate unique Part Numbers (P/Ns), update metadata properties, and ensure 100% Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy within the CAD tree.
- DMS/ERP Routing: Securely upload, vault, and release approved engineering packages to our central Document Management System (DMS) and ERP networks.
2. Downtime Phase: Vault Hygiene & Assembly Cleanup
- Top-Level Assembly Cleanup: Audit and fix historical aircraft and tracking antenna assemblies to eliminate broken mates, missing file references, and broken contextual links.
- Legacy Model Migration: Rebuild and clean legacy design files natively generated in external environments (such as Fusion 360) and reconstruct them as clean, native SolidWorks models.
- PDM Vault Hygiene: Coordinate with the engineering core to clean up legacy folder architectures, enforce strict check-in/check-out discipline, and archive obsolete versions.
Candidate Profile & Requirements
This is not an abstract conceptual design role. We want a geometric gatekeeper; someone who takes pride in flawless drafting, understands exactly how a machinist or fabricator interprets a print, and loves maintaining a spotless database vault.
Technical Requirements
- Experience: 2+ years of professional experience as a Mechanical Drafter, Design Draftsperson, or CAD Technician within an aerospace, automotive, heavy machinery, or precision manufacturing sector.
- CAD Expertise: Exceptional, high-velocity proficiency in SolidWorks (advanced assembly modeling, configuration setups, and 2D drafting).
- GD&T Mastery: Practical, demonstrable knowledge of applying GD&T to machined parts and composite structures.
- Data Environments: Hands-on experience working inside SolidWorks PDM (managing vault workflows, revision states, and file attributes).
- Shop Floor Literacy: Deep understanding of standard fabrication methods (CNC machining tolerances, sheet metal unfolding, and additive manufacturing limits).
Core Attributes
- Meticulous approach to documentation standards, naming conventions, and file structures.
- Strong verbal and technical communication skills to sync with cross-functional teams across multiple engineering sites.
- Ability to self-manage time, smoothly pivoting between urgent production deadlines and background database optimization.
This role is for an immediate start so the right candidate must be based in Ireland
