The Maintenance Technician is the hands-on person responsible for the mechanical set-up, maintenance and tec’ support of equipment on the shift team. This person ensures accurate and timely mechanical set up of his/her line for shift / product changes and for mechanical problem solving to assist the shift team achieve its operational goals. Day-to-day, the Maintenance Technician works closely with the team to resolve mechanical issues and equipment constraints safely. The role also helps improve overall equipment effectiveness through improvement projects in conjunction with the team. It also supports engineering upgrade projects with focus on improving machine uptime, speed, yield and quality.
Performs tasks such as, but not limited to:
- Investigate and fix mechanical equipment failures.
- Perform planned preventative maintenance as per supervision and engineering guidance.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date maintenance and tracking records.
- Interact with other teams to co-ordinate equipment repairs.
- Support the team to meet performance targets for uptime, speed, yield and quality
- Support good communication in the shift and between shifts.
- Attend shift meetings and give status updates.
- Provide details and inputs into spare parts usage.
- Support Engineering and Continuous Improvement projects.
- Support training and assist other Technicians and Operators.
Knowledge/Skills/Competencies
- Hands-on knowledge of setup, lubrication, operation and maintenance of mechanical equipment used in manufacturing or equivalent processes. (Note: training provided for specific machines in service).
- Strong troubleshooting / problem solving skills.
- High level of hands-on technical ability.
- Good written and verbal communication skills (in English).
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Commitment to achieve manufacturing excellence and a safe environment.
- Flexibility – to participate in training courses, maintenance events and project support work.
- Ability to work on own initiative, self-driven.
- Resourceful, hands-on, gets hands dirty and enjoys a challenge.
Physical Demands
- Duties of the position are performed in a manufacturing environment with frequent exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, operating machinery, temperature extremes, hazardous substances, etc.
- Duties require extended periods of sustained visual concentration on detailed documentation and product assemblies.
- Duties of the position require periodic light physical effort and exertion including prolonged repetitive motions, sitting in confined workspaces, using tools and equipment, and moving and handling materials.
- Duties may require periodic heavy manual effort including lifting objects over 20 pounds.
Typical Experience
- 2 - 4 years+ experience as a technician or fitter in a very mechanical environment.
Typical Education
- Ideally a Cert. / Diploma / Senior Trades in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic components is an advantage.
