Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Co-ordinate the TB veterinary diagnostic service, in collaboration with Laboratory Management team, to ensure results are delivered to the highest standard in a timely manner.
- Participate in the maintenance of the ISO 17025 quality management system.
- Discharge duties in accordance with laboratory policies and be responsible for the quality of that work.
- Motivate team members on a day-to-day basis, by agreeing goals and objectives, in keeping with organisational objectives.
- Monitor and interpret quality, standards, accuracy of results, and participate in troubleshooting to resolve abnormalities, anomalies, and variations in results.
- Actively participate in internal and external quality control and quality assurance programmes and co-operate in evaluating assays, equipment and consumables where required.
- Comply with Health and Safety requirements as detailed in the Safety Statement and associated policies and procedures and to report any defects or tasks being carried out in an unsafe manner.
- Any other duties as assigned by laboratory management
- The successful applicant will possess the following qualifications and experience: Minimum of Advanced/Higher Certificate (minimum QQI Level 6 or NAIRC equivalent) in a degree with a significant biological content
- Minimum 1 year experience with gamma interferon immunoassays for TB
- Minimum 1 year experience with culture and identification of Mycobacterium spp.
- Minimum 1 year experience with Ziehl-Neelson staining for Acid Fast Bacilli
- Minimum 1 year experience with the use of the BD MGIT system
- Minimum 1 year experience with use of RT-PCR techniques
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking and problem-solving skill
