Job Title: Ophthalmic Technician / Diagnostic Imaging Technician
Role Summary
We are seeking an experienced Ophthalmic Technician to join our growing ophthalmology team. The successful candidate will support consultants and optometrists by performing advanced diagnostic testing and assisting in the efficient delivery of high-quality patient care.
This role is ideally suited to someone with strong experience in ophthalmic diagnostics, particularly Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) and Visual Field testing, with the ability to work in a fast-paced private clinic environment.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Diagnostics
- Perform high-quality diagnostic imaging and pre-assessment testing for adult ophthalmology patients
- Conduct Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) scans of macula, retina and optic nerve
- Perform automated Visual Field testing (Humphrey or equivalent)
- Carry out additional testing as required
Patient Care
- Prepare patients for consultant examination and explain testing procedures clearly
- Obtain accurate clinical history where required
- Ensure patients are comfortable and supported throughout diagnostics
- Recognise urgent clinical findings and escalate concerns appropriately
Clinical Support
- Upload and document results accurately in EMR / patient management systems
- Ensure imaging quality is consistent and repeatable for longitudinal monitoring
- Assist consultants during clinics, injections, minor procedures and treatment planning
- Support smooth patient flow and help maintain clinic efficiency
- Deal with patients at the desk if and when required
Equipment & Operations
- Ensure all clinical rooms are prepared and stocked daily
- Follow infection control, data protection and clinical governance protocols
Candidate Requirements
Essential
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in ophthalmology, optometry or private eye care
- Strong hands-on experience with OCT scanning
- Strong experience performing automated visual field testing
- Experience with ophthalmic diagnostic equipment
- Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy
- Strong patient communication skills
- Comfortable working with consultants in a busy clinic
Desirable
- Experience in glaucoma, retina, AMD or cataract clinics
- Experience with Heidelberg, Zeiss, Topcon or equivalent imaging platforms
- Relevant healthcare qualification (QQI Level 5+, optical or healthcare related)

Salary
€33,000 to €34,300depending on experience, skill level and diagnostic capability.
