The role combines direct clinical nursing duties with GP administration duties, so it suits someone equally comfortable at the bedside and at the desk.
CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide clinical support to the in-house GP across the care homes.
Carry out phlebotomy and venepuncture.
Administer vaccinations.
Carry out 24-hour blood pressure monitoring.
Carry out ECG testing.
Manage care pathways for residents
Support regular scheduled care reviews, ensuring continuous healthcare monitoring.
Triage clinical concerns on behalf of the GP
Ear syringing
Routine male urinary catheter changes
Cognitive assessments (note: not to include capacity assessments)
ADMINISTRATION RESPONSIBILITIES
Alongside clinical duties, the role assists with the day-to-day running of the GP service, including: PCRS and claims administration
Maintaining and updating the GMS patient list.
Submitting Suspension/Temporary Absence and other PCRS-related claims (STC).
Submitting palliative care forms in line with scheme deadlines.
Managing private service fee billing and record-keeping.
Downloading and cross-checking monthly PCRS/HSE returns against internal records.
Patient records and documentation
Creating new patient files on Socrates for incoming residents.
Chasing outstanding medical records from previous GP practices or hospitals.
Filing post and correspondence, keeping resident files complete and audit-ready.
Stock and supplies
Ordering stock as needed, including death certificates, prescription pads/pink sheets, and clinical equipment.
CANDIDATES MUST HAVE
Active registration on the General Register of Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI).
A nursing qualification: Diploma or Degree in General Nursing.
A special interest in geriatric medicine.
A minimum of 18 months post registration experience
DESIRABLE
Prior exposure to PCRS/GMS administration, or willingness to learn.
Familiarity with GP practice management systems such as Socrates.
An interest in research and new service development
A minimum of 18 months experience in a nursing home setting.
